Coveney gets Irish title chance This content is protected Those of you who read our in-depth interview with professional Mickey Coveney last month may be interested to know that the 5ft 4inch featherweight will travel to Dublin next Saturday to face Patrick Hyland for the Irish title. The West Ham southpaw qualifies through his Irish born father and although many expect current holder Hyland to continue his undefeated run, Coveney will make the short flight full of confidence. BoxRec News correspondant Frank Monkhouse caught up with Michael at East Londons Peacock Gym this week. It was a bit of a surprise to be offered this chance but I have been over in Ireland sparring a few times and they know all about me there. Winning this title would open a few doors for me and Im certainly going to grab this chance with both hands. I boxed six rounds at the Brentwood Leisure Centre not too long ago and felt fine so the step back up to ten shouldnt be a problem. My fitness is there, my weight is coming down nicely and Im starting to get the rewards for all my hard work in the gym." Elsewhere Coveney has been placed first in line for a shot at the Southern Area featherweight title, currently held by Akaash Bhatia, after losing the last meeting between the pair in controversial circumstances on the card of referee Jeff Hinds. Many thought Michael did enough to gain a points decision over his Harrow based rival and the BBBoC obviously think the opinion has merit as they have now ordered a rematch.
Did anyone hear the rumours about Dunne. Down in the bookies today and a bloke I used to work with said to me. That Dunne will be fighting on the next Brian Peters bill with more than likely Andy Lee on the same card co main eventing the bill in Limerick. And that he will be now moving up a weight to featherweight and could be up against a top ranked fighter. I know a few people have some inside knowlege on the board and have they heard anything I asked him did he hear any names being mentioned he said nothing comfirmed at the moment but it could be any of 3 fighters but wouldn't name them.
with all this talk of bookies and fight predictions whats every1's ideas on this years seniors i reakon theres gona be a few upsets!! fancy young patrick gallagher to do well at 64kg with phil sutcliffe having trouble with his hand and fancy alan reynolds to recapture the 91kg title!! Middleweight is looking open as i see darren o'neill weight drained at 75kg and with david oliver joyce moving up to 60kg and frampton gone pro 57kg is also open!! egan is also going backwards could be taken this year by mccarthy!!
steven donnelly from the all saints ballymena beat gallagher in the finals of the ulsters in friday...hes gotta be a force to be reckoned with as well
I got a little bit more info on Dunne from what he beleives there will be some sort of anouncement on Saturday night about Dunnes plans be it move up or stay at this weight. As for a date I think it could well be late April early May depending on what he does. I have no reason to not beleive him as he was and has been on the ball with other bits he said in the past. As I say again at the moment it is only a rumour so I was hoping that Paddy would of heard something about this and had more info than me:huh.

Find it unusual that the week Hyde drops the cubans Acosta is put on Peters card next week.Brian doesnt miss a trick and an Acosta/Peters would be a great match in my very humble opinion.
I agree but he may be going to India with the northern team for the Commonwealth championships thats on more or less the same time as the Ntaional seniors so a lot of the Ulster champswill probably go to that.Carlos you got any inside info on the team going to India?
