great idea cormac, good to see the progression of irish boxing continues.
aye,the boxing community is very fragmented at the minute, but with continuing events in the capitals and also throughout the regional towns it wouldnt be too hard to organise a club together.
****,it could even end up in trips to NYC for fights etc.

boxing at the minute in ireland is thriving and it is things like this that will take it on to the next level in terms of support, great stuff cormac.

o aye, great thing to wake up to today.

derry won against drogheda 2-0 on friday night, but what takes up the entire back page of the derry journal today ...

yes mccloskey's masterclass from saturday night.

apparantly he hurt left hand quite badly in the 3rd and its been an ongoing problem for him in his last 3 fights.

Now now, lets not get ahead of ourselves! New York would be brilliant though. We ran a bus from Newry to Belfast for Duddy in December and there was a good response so it is something we would be keen to do again. Probably from Belfast to Dublin, Dublin to Belfast or Derry to Belfast/Dublin if there is a Duddy fight on.
We'll have to wait and see but it is looking promising. McCloskey was great on Saturday. I think he would cruise past Barnes and Lynes. Not sure about the world just yet, but we'll wait and see.

yea,he sure looks accomplished, his power seems the only thing lacking, but if he is having hand problems that could be it as he doesnt want to sit on his punches.barnes doesn't offer mccloskey much, just look at the level of competition they have each fought and it's possible to say that outside the european world champs that mccloskey has fought the best level of competition.

im just saying that in ireland at the minute, support in boxing is constantly growing and if one of our boys did make it to a title fight im sure that there would be no lacking in people wanting to support them.

do you think the irish boys can make a big impact at the olympics?

you know the guy frankie gavin,im curious is he an irish traveller?

There would be a problem with the copyright, but Id say there might be a chance of up and coming boxers who have only fought off tv getting their fights shown on the site. Its something Id like to look in to, but it totally depends on the people who own the broadcast rights

Surely it would be great idea to organise a trip for Pavlik V Duddy in New York.Talk is, it will happen before the end of the year.

Honestly I have no idea about Gavin. that is his Wikipedia page above.
If someone had said a year ago that it would be Nevin and Barnes qualifying and not Sutherland and Egan you would have laughed. But the bigger men are in stronger divisions and there is no doubting that Nevin and Barnes have pedigree. The problem is that even if you are good enough for silver - you could meet the gold medalist in the first round!

It would be great to organise a trip, but Id probably have to put £20,000 on the line that I dont have!
I would be very tempted to take the risk all the same!

My big gripe is that below Euro there is nothing really worthwhile for the southern lads to fight for. This is a problem. They are all not headed for a World Title - or even a european title, so they need something in between. Because of this I can see problems that fighters cant develop or build a reputation say as easily as boxers from the North. Lee, Macklin, James Moore, Duddy, Dunne and McCloskey are all Euro level, whether they can make the leap remains to be seen. Im growing increasingly impressed with Andrew Murray as well and I think he will be the next to break through. A fight with Oisin ***an would be a good one to see just how good he is.

yea i agree with about the boxers on euro level, and duddy went the right way about it considering where he was based,he picked up the wbc continentals title and then got the iba mw title, however since then he has stagnated in his search for greater glories really.

do you not feel the fighters from the south are being given so many opportunities on the proboxing scene and with the size of the crowds that if they produce good performances they are only going to progress, yes i realise there is a threshold to be had,but as long as boxing continues to grow, more and more opportunities will arise.

o yea sorry cormac,i dont know about andrew murray,i haven't seen much of him to be honest and am being a bit of a boxrec warrior but after 11 fights he hasn't stepped up and fought anyone with a winning record yet.thats a problem,we seen the type of fighters duddy was getting when he immediately came home, the likes of furlan aren't good enough opponents for someone attempting to make world level.

and also there are the inter continental titles, and at the they don't have to fight for titles, yes titles bring recognition but if the fighter can bring in enough support he will get in a better level of competition.

I would like to see the Celtic Title becoming something that all Irish, Scotish and Welsh can fight for. Again at present only Northerners can fight for it. I think in time that will change. Nobody likes intercontinental titles, and they can be bought and sold at the drop of a hat. But with a Celtic title the boxers could get well paid, well schooled and raise their profiles.
