it looks like 2 tough fights...maybe ohara to win his fight...and patrick hyland to beat griffin...but i dont know much about griffin
christ...paul griffin on the go a long time...remember seeing him box on the undercard of a steve collins fight in the point in dublin in 96 {?}...a lad from where i live used to fight on those bills in the point a lot, but i dont think he fought on that one....vinny 'the sligo kid' feeney... griffin must be quite old now...i think michael carruth was on that same bill that night i seen griffin too...and steve collins brother pascal fought with steve as cornerman.... it could have been the naseem hamed fight in dublin..i'm thinking i seen him twice {griffin} now that i think back.. bit of useless info for ye all
Anyone from here off to Vegas for Calzaghe? He may be a taffie but he's still my favourite fighter so looking forward to 8 days in Vegas I've been told that one of the best boxing bars in Vegas is an irish pub but can't remember the name..anyone been?!
I think Paul Griffin could beat Hyland.Paul used to be class, hes maybe not as good, but hes got experience.I think Fenney mostly fought in London under the Frank Maloney.
have to disagree mate.. hyland is young and very tallented. he will be too much for the ageing griffin..
:thumbsup now that'd be a great idea cormac and something that brian peters should be pushing for with the current boom around irish boxing...it could do nothing but good for fighters like raising profiles and earning some much needed revenue,i was talkin to a mate of mine who boxes amateur for the gardai talented fighter he is,told me the cost in the pro game often outweighs profit.....
The only Irish bar i know in Vegas is 'Nine fine Irishmen' in New York New York.I don't know if its a boxing bar but the last time i was there it was full of UFC fans
Hello Shamrock, There is also another fighter trained by Brendan Ingle called Junior Witter, I,m sure you have heard of him, as he is the WBC light-welterweight champion. His and McCloskey's styles are very similar.Witter byw is for ever calling out Hatton. A lot of people in Britain think Witter could beat Hatton.:good
Thanks Ardy, I have never seen Witter fight but have heard plenty mention concerning him. Sounds like hatton thinks Witter could beat him also, the way he is avoiding him. Its a weight down from the one he fought Mayweather though isn't it.
Unfortunately my holiday will be boxing free. Not going to the Calzaghe one Im afraid. I think he will win but it mightnt be the prettiest one to watch.
Hello Cormac, is there any talk at all about showing small hall Irish boxing on Setanta Ireland.Let's be honest the rubbish they put on most Sturdays, you wouldn't watch it,and the Setanta Cup[talk about a waste of money].But seriously it would be great if Setanta Ireland could broadcast 8-10 small shows a year.I think that would be a positive step in the right direction for Irish boxing. The Celtic title being open to southern Irish fighters is an excellent idea. It has been set-up by the BBB of C, so it is up to the Irish board to make advances to strike an agreement with them. With the right political will on both sides, I believe that could be sorted out in no time.:good
I was in touch with someone at the station and they arent showing the Hyland bill. I dont think they have any plans to show small hall shows. But honestly if you discard all the Peters stuff that is on RTE that leaves about 4-5 shows between Wilton in Belfast, Hyde in Cork and Hyland in Dublin. For me these are shows I want to go to not watch on TV. I would prefer if they put stuff like Ireland amateur internationals and provincial championships on TV. I would also like to see internationals around the country. I think it would be good for crowds and media coverage. On the part of the Setanta Cup, I quite like it. If you compare Irish soccer to Irish boxing it could be turned round in the same way with investment. Things have improved with the Setanta Cup and if there was an all Ireland league the standard could rise to at least that of the SPL. Again Id rather go to a game than watch it on tv!
