not even joking, but most of the lads on this site would do a better job. makes you wonder how people get these positions?
Come on hombre. Robbie had a lot more rounds under his belt before he stepped into the ring for the Irish title fight (great night for the Murray-Rock-Gunning families! ). Robbie was undefeated in his career but all his fights went the distance. Whereas Conlan has only done 9 rounds. Barratt was given the nod because the Prizefighter was looked upon as an effective 9 rounder. From what I gather the IABA look at it on a case by case basis. I like Conlan, seems like a nice fella. I want to see as many Irish title fights as possible but Conlan is too inexperienced for a title tilt - in my opinion. Now this isnt ould chat to get Farrell nudged in because I doubt Farrell and Wilton will ever meet because Wilton is to light and Farrell is still growing.
Your logic is flawed here slappy, your making an argument against potentially the best flyweight of the trio of Conlan, Wilton and Farrell not being allowed to box for the title due to lack of bouts actually boxed. Jamie fought in an 8rd scheduled contest, that qualifies him for an Irish title fight. Charlie Magri fought for the British flyweight title in his third contest, so young Jamie is in good company.:nono
So where is the flaw? I want to see Irish titles being fought for but there is a potential that it would be devalued if you are letting novices in there to fight for them. Farrell wont be fighting at Flyweight, Super Fly maybe but not Fly so thats him out. Wilton is ready to fight for an Irish title fight but aint had an eight rounder and Conlan is too wet behind the ears. Standards my man, standards!! As for Charlie Magri, wasnt he British ABA champion for the previous 40 years and coming off the back of a high profile Olympic run - hardly comparable buck!
Standards:huh, catch a grip. If Conlan is good enough to be Irish champ, then he should be allowed to fight for the title. And the Magri comparison is fitting, as although he had only two contests the BBB of C thought he was worthy of a title fight, much the same as the Irish boxing union with young Conlan. Peters, Warren and Matchroom are all very keen in matching Conlan for the Irish title, and whether you like it or not, it's going to happen.
100% agree with you Ardy. I spoke to Breen a few weeks ago and he was raving about Conlan - he wants him in fighting for a title now as he is that good. Breen also mentioned to me that Dave Boy McAuley was very impressed with Conlan after his last outing in Dublin. In saying all of that, I have been very impressed with Wilton in his last few performances and when he meets Conlan (hopefully) it should make for a crackin fight. It is a pity that Farrell is just a bit heavy for Conlan and Wilton's weight division - as more rivals in better for the division. In fact, I wouldnt be surprised if Conlan-Wilton go on to meet several times in their career. Hopefully in the coming year we will get some good domestic flyweight clashes to revive past eras such as Hugh Russell-Davy Lamour et al...
far be it for me to stand in the way of Peters, Warren, Matchroom, Conlan and the BUI. Sorry for having an opinion brother.
Agree 100% Ardy if they good enough then let them fight. Hope it happens because it would be an exciting we scrap. But dont fall out over it lads :scaredas:
That's all right, but don't let it happen again Are you coming over for the Kings Hall show. If the place is packed, then the atmosphere is second to none. Also how good is this guy Vassell, they seem quite taken by him on the Brit forum.
Me and slappy won't fall out. Every now and again there's an aul row or two on here, but it's all forgot about the next day [I hope:blood]
