Good call on the cuts, Pavlik deserves a rematch though, he had martinez figured out before the second cut opened up

How's it going rebel, long time no see:hi:I didn't watch the fight, but having watched Martinez in the Kings Hall a few years back I knew he was quality. Although saying that I was totally on the fence in terms of predictions on this contest, one day I would think Pavlik, the next Martinez.
But to answer you question, although Pavlik lost[ and he's talking about using the rematch clause in the contract], there's still plenty of opportunities for our three middleweights in America and Europe. But unfortunately for them they won't be as lucrative as a Pavlik contest.

I was surprised to see Boxing News pick Pavlik so resoundingly. I always thought that Martinez's speed and trickery would trouble him. I am convinced that Pavlik ducked Paul Williams.

    Pavlik defeat may cost Duddy

Boxing: Derryman John Duddy may have to wait a little longer for his shot at a world title after middleweight world champion Kelly Pavlik was relieved of his belts by Sergio Martinez.
The Argentinian stepped up to middleweight to take Pavlik's WBO and WBC titles by unanimous decision in Atlantic City last night.

Pavlik, who has been the benchmark for Irish middleweights Andy Lee, Matthew Macklin and Duddy for some time now, is likely to enact a rematch clause after emerging badly cut from a gruelling 12-round bout.

Martinez, the southpaw WBC light middleweight champion, stepped up to 160 pounds at the Boardwalk Hall and recovered from a seventh-round knockdown to hand Pavlik his first defeat at middleweight.

His trip to the canvas looked to have more to do with a slip than a particularly big hit from Pavlik, but when the referee ruled it as a knockdown, Martinez chased the fight and it paid off handsomely.

Having dominated early rounds, the 35-year-old handed the initiative back to Pavlik until the eighth, in which he came out throwing far more punches than his slowing opponent, who found it increasingly difficult to cope.

Martinez (45-2-2, 24 KOs) cut the champion around both eyes to score heavily in the closing rounds and got the verdict with scores of 115-112, 115-111 and 116-111 as Pavlik (36-2, 32 KOs) was sent to just the second defeat of his career, having lost at light heavyweight in October 2008 to Bernard Hopkins.

Asked about a rematch afterwards, Martinez’s promoter Lou DiBella said: “If they want it, they got it.”

Duddy, who has bounced back from his sole defeat against Billy Lyell with three wins, was tipped to get a shot at Pavlik’s belts if he beat the highly-rated Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr in San Antonio, Texas, in June.

With a rematch between Martinez and Pavlik now on the cards, the Derryman looks like he’ll have to wait a little longer for his chance at the big time, whether he stops Chavez or not.

I reckon Arum would like to match the Duddy-Chavez jnr winner with Pavlik before a rematch happens(if it does happen).

If he puts Pavlik in with Martinez again and he loses again then that's his cash cow gone. Pavlik's stature has taken a major fall but another loss could finish him.

I don't think Dudy will get a title shot now.And if he did he would be completely out of his depth.

It's quite ironic really, ESB is crazy for people making threads like 'Pavlik is overrated' after fights like this. Yet so many people will have this opinion that he's probably actually underrated.

It's kind of like the Duddy is an 'overrated hype job' theme on these forums, I mean when has anyone seen any Duddy hype in the last 2 years ?.......there's been absolutely none. Yet on these forums the majority of people are of the believe he's overrated(despite most people on these forums referring to him as a 'bum'), and over-hyped(despite there being no hype whatsoever).

    Essentially, people are idiots.
