    btw...have read many times about the gilroy v caldwell fight in belfast...would love to see it...is the recording available i wonder?

    and ardy...what were you thoughts fella on post cruz mcguigan ??

    McGuigan was never the same after Cruz, his father had died, and he had become embroiled in a slagging match with his old mentor Barney Eastwood. IMO Barry's heart was no longer in the game, but you have to remember, when he lost to McDonnell it was a cut eye defeat, the fight had barely started, I was amazed when he retired.:patsch

    Also they carried Freddie Gilroy around the streets of Ardoyne when he defeated Caldwell.

    it was..for a few seconds :)...
    met him at er...either lennox lewis fight..or wayne mccullough fight in dublin..the point...mid 90's...
    thats a dublin rock band on there now that i'm into at the moment..

    Thanks for that Paddy, it brought back wonderful memories.Anytime Barry fought, for that night, and that night only Belfast was united. Everyone cheering on the "wee man from Clones".:good

    i was thinking about our 'to and fro' posts on mcguigan again last night ardy...and i suppose another reason why i get in the habit of not regarding mcguigan higher than i do, is that azumah nelson was one of my all time favourite boxers and at the time, i along with all of ireland, cheered on mcguigan..but when the euphoria died down a little, i couldnt help but think that if he ever did fight nelson he would have lost badly...
    but i am reading your posts on him intently...and dont take any disrespect from what i say...just my tuppence worth....
    and having said that i am reminding myself that the initial question was who's the best irish fighter..not world...so maybe my nelson point isnt too relevent...

    that was really good to watch,showed the first signs of his immaculate chin,that was a big hook duddy took and he just didnt even looked dazed,such a shame that 1 and a half years of his career was robbed due to immigration restrictions,id be sure he'd already have had a title shot by.his combinations were great then and he threw some mean mean left hooks to the body.

    ardy you were one of the advocates of duddy getting a new trainer after the smichet fight,what do you make of what you have read of the new trainer.

    Just checked with Ringside Club. It costs €400 to rent the place for one night so it isnt going to be happening there! Can anyone think of other places in Belfast and Dublin that would give meeting rooms cheap or free? Also the show we are doing will probably be in Warrenpoint so just an hour from Belfast or Dublin. Paul McCloskey is guest of honour.

    We (irish-boxing.com) have set up a supporters club and are organising a Q and A night with some boxers in both Dublin and Belfast. Scouting for venues at the minute.
