Your wrong there puca, as all the best pros in the states turn pro between 19-21.The longer our top amateurs leave it to turn pro, the harder they will find it to succeed.

 

I dont disagree with that Marty but if the younger guys are looked after by the Olympic council they will stay amateur and get to box in two olympics after that turn pro at just 24 years of age with a world of top class experience behind them.
I also believe American boxing (pro and amateur) is suffering because their guys are not getting the top amateur experiences like Breland,Hearns, Leonard, De la hoya,Holyfield etc did before they turned pro .An athlete does not mature fully untill mid to late 20s so i cant see what the rush is.
To add to my arguement it is worth noting that both Carruth and Mc Cullough had boxed in the 88 soeul games before their great run in Barcelona 92.

 

Summer is usually pretty barren for boxing - even in Britain. As far as I know Peters will have a July 12 show with Bernard Dunne. Egan on the same night. then the two will probably have shows in September as well.
The May edition of the website will be launched later today (I hope). So keep an eye out and let me know what you think.

Gomez is fighting McDonagh in England this month. Im not sure if it is for a title. If Im honest I've contacted the BUI about rankings and sanctioned fights a couple of times to no avail. So myself and Mark Doyle are currently coming up with our own independent rankings

 

it was supposed to be a rematch against Peter McDonagh for the Irish title at the Robin Park Arena in WIgan - the night before the Hatton Lazcano fight

 

thanks boys...wigan seems unusual place for an irish title fight...when i heard gomez was fighting for a title...i asumed[although i should never asume anything]... that the challenge would have been at superfeather...and patrick hyland would have been his opponent.

 

quite pissed off about what quite a reputable poster wrote about collins in a thread about nigel benn,

"that is a very harsh manner to judge collins' career by, i and alot of other people would resent the fact that you say his wins over eubank and benn mean nothing.they were still forces that collins totally intimidated,he may not have been the most technically gifted but he had all the heart,chin and stamina to make it difficult for any boxer to deal with.im not saying you are a calzaghe fan (i dont know if you are) but they try to claim eubank as a significant win in the career of a HOFer,if this is true then two victories of a closer to prime eubank must also hold case.

benn may not have been the animal he was in the past prior to the mccellan fight but he did ko two very capable boxers post it along with a contentious decision at the hands of malinga,to say that he was 'blunted' is simply ignorant as he was definatly a solid operator who simply got overrun by a hungrier and more aggressive fighter.

collins had no significant wins ... pffffffffffffff what a dumb ****ing comment, what about koing pyatt in 5?swhat about destroying craig cummings when he was at his peak in 3? and what about the 15 fight winning streak he ended his career on?

to look back at collins' career in the way you did is a very disappointing approach and truly shows the inconsitency of many fans when judging a career."

do you boys agree?or disagree?i find it very annoying when people try to acclaim the career of someone like eubank or benn then totally dismiss the career of a warrior such as collins.

 

The british are a biased bunch, when it comes to their sporting stars.Christ, sure aren't they always favorites to win the world cups, in their own minds that is. Then they whine like babies, when they get kicked off the field by someone like Cameroon.Therefore its no surprise when they thrash talk Collins achievements. sure he wasnt British, what do you expect from them, PRAISE!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

This era was built by as the Brits as one to rival the American Hagler Hearns Leonard Middleweight era and then this upstart from Dublin came back from the states and just blows 3 of their champions out of the water in quick succesion. No wonder they were a bit put out about it........Happy Days

Well, A fight with McBride could well happen in September - but Rogie didnt want to jump the gun on anything. I think he has had too many disappointments in the last couple of years to think that it will all be plain sailing and big fights from now on!
