You'd like to think Casey has a good reason for dropping out but it looks like he needs another fight to get that ranking up.

Very unfair Casey doesn't get into the European rankings. Seems quantity is more preferable than quality, which is stupid but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Hope Paulie does the business, he has the ability to outbox Kiko but it will be a tough night.

Has Casey split from McGuigan altogether then? Is you-know-who going to be the MC at the stadium and in letterkenny?

    ever try and herd butterflies?

Well I have just managed to successfully complete that task.

In a departure of how we at Boxing-Ireland.com historically compiled our Irish weight rankings we now have assembled a panel of 6 of the "sharpest" brians on the Irish boxing scene (and Stapleton) who each give a score for fighters across the weight classifications.

    Here is July's ranking - http://boxing-ireland.com/100704_irish_weight_rankings_15.html

The new panel rankings will be published within the next 2 weeks. Will we see any surprises? :good

Willie will be put in around number 15 when Peters gives the correct italian lad the envelope.I would perfer to see Hyland fight for it and give up his eu belt so Willie can fight for that. With a view to an all irish euro title fight.
I believe Hyland beats Kiko easier than Willie does but Casey may give Paulie a real tough time.Styles make fights and all that.

Oh I'd doubt that, from reading Stapleton's article you'd get the impression that all weight classes in Europe have fighters ranked from 1-20.
That's not actually the case, what is true is that they will not rank past 20 fighters in a division.
Super-Bantamweight currently has 12 and Salvini was 9th.
The EU rankings at the weight currently have 15, where Willie is 14th and Salvini is 10th. Before anyone questions how Salvini can be lower in the EU it's because Maludrottu(as mandatory) and Martinez(as challenger) aren't in the EBU rankings but are in the EU, Paulie Hyland isn't in the EU rankings as he is champion, hence how Salvini is one place lower in the EU.

Anyway anyone know what exactly the new European rankings are ?, the EBU still have the July rankings up on their site.

TONY JEFFRIES PARTS COMPANY WITH TRAINER BOBBY RIMMER
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/8957444.stm

The final story about Jeffries is interesting in that his new trainer Is Sean Casey. If it's the same Casey from Derry I'm thinking about, I seen his pro debut on the McGuigan/Taylor undercard. Casey won a bronze medal in the 1985 European Championships, and in actual fact he was the only Irish boxer to win a contest in those championships, a team that included Sam Storey, Kieran Joyce and Damien Denny among others. I remember Patrick Myler writing a disparaging article for Boxing News at the time, claiming that the Irish team were the "soft touch" of the championships. My, have things have changed:yep
