Was anyone else reminded of the Dunne/Cordoba fight by watching that?

Yeah absolutely. Thats what I was thinking while I watched it.

Less spectacular than that fight but the same idea. Burns deserved it. Heart of a champion.

...delighted for Ricky..I remember him boxing Michael Ryan from New Ross in the final of the Gaelic Youths in Fife in 1999.. Ryan beat him and gave up boxing the next year..

I hope you're not comparing Cordoba to Martinez, but yeah I can see where you're coming from

The first round Martinez was having a look and taking everything in his stride - Burns shots were clearing not making a dent, he even winked at his corner at one stage, then he decked Burns at the end of the round.

i was thinking, here we go, Dunne-Poonsawat all over again, but then it nearly reached the pinnacle of dunne-cordoba - if only Burns had a bit more power he might have stopped Martinez. Brilliant performance, what a fight and a brilliant start to the season:happy:happy

..yeah, Martinez was very crude, depending on punching power, Ricky outboxed him, could have have made it easier by using his jab, but then it looks a lot easier from the outside...:bbb
