Great little piece on the Gerry Storey and the Holy Family club in Belfast home to none othe than Paddy Barnes,Carlos Jackal and Ryan Burnett Keeping it in the family Gerry Storey and his 'wee club' in Belfast have created a lasting legacy in Irish boxing, writes John O'Brien Sunday September 12 2010 Patrick Barnes keeps a photo on his mobile phone. Every now and again he changes it, but the theme remains constant. It used to show his son, Paddy, during his hour of glory at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Now it depicts him standing on the podium at this year's European Championships in Moscow. From bronze to gold, it has been upgraded. It will do, he says, until something better comes along. His laugh rises above the din in a crowded room on the second floor of a modest building on the New Lodge Estate in north Belfast. The Reccy has housed the Holy Family Boxing Club since the early 1970s. Six days a week they file up the stairs and cram into the gym, the tiny space an incongruous setting for the magnitude of their achievements and the breadth of their ambition. the rest is in this link: http://www.independent.ie/sport/other-sports/keeping-it-in-the-family-2334664.html

I thought Kiko moved and boxed a little bit last night to! wasnt gung hoe at all!!!
yeah it looked like fitzpatrick sold about 300/400 tickets , the stadium was half empty after his fight they all left as soon as he won , mad ****ers paying 40 quid each to see him hammer a chap with 0-6 record . fitz - long was a great scrap both sets of fans were brilliant , the place was rocking , it was a better fight than there last one , have to say fitzy desevered it! I had him winning by 2 , was a good night imo the ony complaint i have is the seats i had 75 quid and i was right behind the red corner post so i missed loads of the action wont be buying them ones again
With Katie and the other girls out at the Worlds do the finalists of the Worlds qualify for the Olympic games in London or is it too early for the qualification for the London games? Also on Magee he looked the part last night boxed well and done the job well. I think he needs to move on now and try and get a World title fight asap if it can be made. At his age now he is in a rush to win a World title and with the run he is on it is the next step for Magee.
KAVANAGH REINSTATED AT AIBA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS AuthorBernard O'Neill (IABA Public Relations Officer) Sinead Kavanagh has been reinstated in the 6th AIBA World Women's Championships in Barbados. The Drimnagh BC middleweight lost out to Wided Younsi of Tunisia at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex in Bridgetown on Friday night. However, Younsi admitted after the bout that she once boxed professionally and the result has been annulled. Additionally, the Tunisian has been suspended and disqualified and Kavanagh will now meet Li Jinzi of China in a last-16 bout on Monday night. Please read statement courtesy of AIBA 12.09.2010 Tunisian boxer Wided Younsi has been suspended and disqualified from the 6th AIBA Women's World Championships, which are currently being held in Barbados. Younsi confessed that she had participated in a professional boxing match, but signed a written statement to confirm that the Tunisia boxing federation had not been aware of this. Her victory over Ireland's Sinead Kavanagh at 75kg in the first round is therefore annulled, which means that Drimnagh-based Kavanagh, the Irish National Champion, will now face China's Li Jinzi.
I think the BIG BANG will be up against it with kiko, With him getting into the ring last night and wants a shot at Kiko title.... It could be a hard lesson!
he is mandatory for the WBA strap and by all accounts will fight for it in December! they way they were talking after the fight however i reckon they will travel to challenge!!! When Belfast was mentioned the general response was 'that would be ideal but if the money is right we'd go anywere' delighted for Magee either way
That is an outstanding write up! Ps I wear the long johns cause you sweat like a peado in a playground in them. No other reason
Not sure Casey is ready for Martinez. It would probably be better to see Hyland attempt a Munroe job on him. Casey takes a lot of punches and I'm not sure he will be able to take Martinez's shots. Time will tell though...
