Anthony Fitzgerald could be set for an EU title clash with Grzegorz Proksa 21-0(14KO). Hard-hitting Proksa, who claimed the title in February against Tyan Booth in London would be Fitzgeralds toughest test to date but ‘The Pride’ will take it with both hands.
“This will be a step in the right direction for Anthony, we expect him to be challenging for the EBU belt next year so we feel that its time for the step-up in class. Fitzy is such a talent, he’s been fighting at Super-Middleweight and has looked comfortable but it’s the Middleweight division where we see Fitzy focusing on now that the Rob Long fight is behind him. We think September 11 showed the doubters just how far Fitzy has come, the Middleweight division is where Anthony feels most at home so we have yet to see his best” claimed Phil Sutcliffe
“If that happens I would obviously jump at the chance of fighting for a European title. I was happy with how the last fight went (against Robbie Long), it could have gone better but the result is what counts. I have been saying it for a while now, that I am definitely ready for the step up”.
For ‘The Pride’, he now has his sights focused on the Irish Middleweight Title and a possible clash with Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan. “Here we are back to the same thing with Spike, I have called him out time and time again and its getting a bit ridicules at this stage. A true champion will fight anyone put in front of him which is what I will always do, Phil (Sutcliffe) has that ingrained in us- it’s the same for Willie (Casey) and all the fighters he trains, fear nobody. A fighter who is proud of his title will defend it it’s as simple as that, if he’s (Spike) off chasing British Titles then he needs to vacate the title. If he’s afraid of me, he also should vacate that title and avoid all these public callouts.
That belt has been worn by the likes of Steve Collins and Matthew Macklin, you wouldn’t have seen them shying from challenges. Boxing fans don’t want that belt sitting on a mantle-piece; they want it being fought for”.
If ‘Spike’ vacates the title Fitzy sees Lee Murtagh a possible opponent for the title. “I heard Lee Murtagh wants a crack at me, lets get it on then- it’s a fight that fans would enjoy and its another title fight that we’d be bringing them so why not”.
