Irish Boxing

Doe's anybody know what McCloskey is up to next. I personally think he should skip the euro champ and go for a gate-keeper, i think he is ready and the italian might want to sit on the title for a while and time isn't on pauls side and even if he does win lynes will probably want a fight so that sets him back even further. Also doe's anyone know when bernard dunne's opponent is going to be announced ?

 

Maybe Pat Burns will be a good fit for John, hope so. Feel bad for Don Turner though. But he's had plenty of sucess, so he's got nothing to prove. I'm pretty sure that the McLaughlin bros. never handled a fighter before, so when they brought John and James Moore over, it was like on the job training. Things seem to have gone off the rails after the Yuri boy fight. I thought maybe an easy fight, than Sergio Mora or Lorenzo would have been the way to go. After a while it gets obvious That the're just afraid of losing the 0 in the lost column.
Anyhoo, I'm still a big fan, and hope he never gets cut as badly as that again. Tbh, I wouda loved to have seen Wayne McCollough Get hold of him as a trainer about 3 yrs ago (if that makes any sense!)
Also, it was a good article, but I'm wondering if Ron Borges is the same guy who does football/ baseball up here in Boston. Probably is, doesn't seem a common name. If so, he's a bit hypercritical at times, likes to go against the grain. Not that it really means anything, but on t.v. he comes off as something of a pain in the ass.

 

He is just coming back from injuries. Was in Manchester sparring Matthew Hatton and will be on Lee bill in Limerick on 19th July

 

Going back to Marty's original question regarding first world champion from our current crop of Irish boxers, I initially agreed with Marty that Andy Lee was our best prospect. On reflection, Paul McCloskey must also sit near the top of the bunch due to his unorthodox style and ability to make his opponent miss.
With these two on show it should make for another great night of Irish boxing on 19th July. I'm only an hour up the road so this one is a must.

Reading between the lines, its not beyond the realms of possibility that we could see Wayne McCullough on an Irish show in the near future.
Egan, to be fair, would give nothing away about his plans regarding Wayne, but he is a friend of his and he did say that he has enormous time for him.

On another note, is there anyone better for giving their time to fans than pro boxers?
I've gone on about it before, but:
A kid in the hospital with cystic fibrosis, had to cut short his dream holiday to NYC last week after a serious attack. Back to hospital in Dublin. Up there bored off his tits, and not feeling the best to boot.

I asked Bernard Dunne and Jamie Moore if they could maybe send on a text wishing him the best...Young Joe Lawlor is a boxing fanatic, loves Bernard and Jamie. He and Jamie have been in contact before cos Jamie does work for CF in Britain.

Both were on the phone within seconds, wanting his number. Both rang Joe, shot the breeze, broke his balls about getting a sponge-bath, ha ha. Stayed talking for an eternity.

Bernard insisted that a signed shirt/gloves are on its way, and Joe is gonna be there for his show in July, just the tonic for when he gets out of hospital.

Tell me there is a nicer fella in any pro sport.

Ditto Jamie Moore and Tommy Egan. Tommy brought him ringside as his guest for Andy Lee v Jason McKay in December, has promised him the star treatment for the Tallaght show. Jamie Moore will be coming over to see him at the end of the month.

I just thought it was a nice one to share. They want neither commendation nor publicity for doing things like that. But I think their selflessness deserves to be recognised.

That's just one more reason why boxing is the greatest sport of them all. Well done, lads.

 

Hopefully should be a good show.hopefully we'll get some more big cards arond Munster

I don't know enough about the novice pros but i don't think any of the other lads listed will win a legitimate world title.Mc Closkey seems most likely but is fighting in a very competitive division.Duddy should get his shot at Pavlik but i don't give him much chance of winning.Dunne might get his European title back but a world title is way out of reach.If Lee is not rushed and Pavlik moves to 168 then he may have a chance in a weak division.
Mike Perez is an intrigueing talent and may be the most likely ' irishman ' to win a title
