hiya doin Ardy..hadnt looked in on eastside boxing for a while..delighted to see this site on Irish boxing...just want to say i was in the USA with Martin Lindsay in 2002 when Ireland boxed the USA in Denver Colorado. Martin boxed Rasheem Jefferson at bantamweight. At the time Jefferson was being groomed for the Olympics and Lindsay produced a brilliant performance beating Jefferson 16-9. Keep up the good work:good

Hello Pat, I'm pleased you noticed the thread. The whole idea of the thread is the exchange of information on Irish boxing. I have noticed from your previous posts, that you are an amateur boxing referee, your contributions would then be an excellent addition to the thread.Pat who do you think can bring home a medal, of our five boys going to Beejing.:good

I am also a coach Ardy...Harry Hawkins from the Holy Trinity club and myself were the coaches with that team..but to answer your question..I would have to go with Kenny Egan..vastly experienced..he has beaten the best in Europe over the years..he's a man for the big occasion as well..great confidence...

Young Nevin looks like a class act, he could be the surprise package of the Irish team.Im really looking forward to these games, we have been starved of Irish boxers at the olypmics since 1996.Now we have five lads going, lets hope they can bring home some medals.

yeah i agree! his confidence is unbelievable! we have a very good chance of bringing home some medals.
the high performance programme is really producing some real contenders. these boys know they are athletes.

Fra I agree Barnes has come on a bomb in recent years but so have the John Joes (nevin and joyce).
Not sure if anyone will be able to pick up a medal but Nevin IMO would be our best hope.
Great reward for Kenny Egan after a lifetime of serving irish amateur boxing so well for so long.
Sutherland will be using the games to catapult himself into the pro game so he will go there with all guns blazing.

We should all keep our fingers crossed that Jamie Moore doesnt get injured, because we dont want July5th being effected.

Good luck to the Hitman, maybe next year he will be in Croker:lol:

Do you guys like hatton? He seems like a gentleman but I believe his style is unbearable. He constantly holds and hits which clearly violates the rules. Im really never impressed by any of his apprearances but his ability to draw a crowd is great for the sport.

Your right fra, that size crowd speaks volumes. On a side note, I have heard some say that magee was perhaps the most talented irish boxer ever, do you agree? A counter punching southpaw is a nightmare for anyone.
