For 50 & 100 euro a ticket this is fairly poor. There's not one match up there that I particularly what to see.

Mc Mahons one could be interesting and the guy Paddy Mc is fighting is one tough ***** his record is cack but he is a tough durable guy so that could be interesting. Is that Gary Hydes new guy thats boxing at light welter heard he was a class amateur.Prunty,Robbie Long and JJ are on comebacks so they were always going to be given handy ones.Noel may have a tough night not that handy for a debut and Fitz well lets just say he's fighting at his level..All in all not enough to get me to travel to.Roll on Cork on January 22nd.

Failure not an option when the cuts begin

Or what about boxing, where relations between the sports council and the Irish Amateur Boxing Association remain seriously strained? This year, the IABA received €200,000 in core funding, and €700,000 and once again its return on that investment was phenomenal. Boxing remains far and away Ireland's most successful sport on the international stage, and the IABA believes it has a strong case for an increase in core funding.

There's not a hope of getting an increase in funding, for boxing to retain it's current level of funding would be doing exceptionally well but with the state of public finances I fear that is very unlikely. The gains that have been make in irish sport both amateur and professional could be sacificed at the altar of the IMF very quickly. As I'm sure you're well aware it takes financial backing as well as talent to achieve success and in that regard we have lost our muscle.

Boxings saving grace may yet come from the success of it's current crop. Professionals Lee, McCloskey, Casey, Macklin winning titles at world & Euro level and the superb developement of the amateaur squad that could yet deliever a fist full of medals at the London Olympics, could propel the sports profile above that of others. But however it pans out the future isn't what it used to be.

I think its because Peters is tied in with Murray and Dean is based in the states. I wouldnt want to speculate but I haven't heard Byrne mentioning anywhere that he wanted to be on a peters show anyway!

Checked the 122 rankings there and was surprised to see Kiko is ranked in all but one of them.

#5 with WBO (Champion: Vazquez Jr)
#6 with IBF (Champion Steve Molitor)
    #11 with WBC (Champion Nishioka)

If, and I know it's a big if, Casey beats Kiko, he would definitely be in with a shout at getting a world title shot.

i cant speak with any degree of certainty but byrne called out andy murray a few months ago so perhaps peters wants to keep him out of the picture and would be happy if he stayed state-side, just my own theory but it seems plausible

the state of the economy will definately have an impact on funding but it would seem crazy to decimate the IABA's funding when you look at the funding that is given to some olympic sports that have provided little or no international success. no disrespect intended to any other olympic sports- but there will be funding provided to olympic disciplines over the next few years that will have absolutely no chance of winning medals in london.

i appreciate that everyone deserves funding and support but surely the level of funding and support should be proportionate to the level of success, participation and public interest. i cant see the entire nation being gripped by the shot put in two years time...

Murray's a weight class lower and hasn't boxed at the higher weight in a long time.
