I wonder IF RTE will step up to the plate and show either the Bute v Magee fight or even Duddy v Lee fight live. It would be nice but it seems they have splashed a bit on the rugby so far this year. Do we know how many cards Peters has this year with RTE? I know its early days but when is some of his fighters due out? Andy Murray was very active in the last year so I would expect him to be first up. I wonder if he will try and do a deal with Dean Byrne if he cant sort something out in the US soon.
Doesnt Lee do the majority of his training with Joey Gamache now? Dont think it will be an issue if Stewards with Cotto. Always my man Sugar Hill to step in anyway. As for RTE I dont think they could show the fights if they wanted. Doesnt Peters have a contract that says they cant show boxing that he doesnt promote?
The way Dolphil are running shows and im sure Brian Peters will have a minimum of 4 and McGuigan will have 3 or 4, i ts gonna be a great year for the irish boxing fan
What is happening with spike, hes with from being one of our best prospects to zilch:huh. No fights or sign of a fight in the near future, its all went down hill for him.:-(
Just galloping through old Irish Boxing articles and seen this. Is it me or does Peters look about 12 in this? This content is protected
This content is protected Macklin could face Barker next January 9th, 2011 This content is protected By Sean McDaniel: European Boxing Union (EBU) middleweight champion Matthew Macklin (28-2, 19 KO’s) will possibly be defending his title against 28-year-old Darren Barker (22-0, 14 KO’s) in the near future, according to boxing news from frankwarren.tv. The bout has reportedly been put out for purse bids, so we could possibly be seeing something very soon. This is the second time that these two fighters have attempted to put a fight together. Last year, Barker came up injured when they were supposed to fight in September. The fight may happen unless Frank Warren opts to put Macklin in with one of the world champions such as Felix Sturm, Sebastian Sylvester or Sergio Martinez. Macklin is ranked #3 WBA, #4 WBC, #6 WBO and #7 IBF. Macklin defeated Ruben Varon by a 12 round decision in December in Macklin’s first title defense. It wasn’t an impressive performance by Macklin, as he was hit often in the fight and failed to dominate the little known Varon. If that fight is any gauge of how good Macklin is, then he’s not going to successful challenging one of the world champions. There’s a huge gulf in talent between guys like Varon and Martinez, Sylvester, Sturm and Dimitry Pirog. In that case, Macklin might be better off going after Barker and being content with defending the EBU title. Barker has little power to speak of, and fights in a mostly mechanical manner. Although some boxing fans have compared Barker to Joe Calzaghe for some absolutely strange reason, I can’t see anything in Barker’s style that reminds me of Calzaghe. Barker is more of a robotic jabber, a fighter that jabs a lot and is very rigid, tight and lacks flexibility in movement. He’s very mechanical and is perhaps more the opposite of Calzaghe than anything like him. Macklin should easily beat Barker. If not, then Macklin needs to downsize his ambitions and be content with holding down one of the smaller domestic titles. Barker is one of those fighters that you have to beat to get to the next level. If Macklin fails at this test, then he doesn’t belong fighting better fighters in the world stage.
This is the worst article I have read in a long time. Its one of those from BoxingNews24, they are simply shocking. Firstly there is no such person as 'Sean McDaniel' and the lyrics! Feck me! This content is protected This content is protected
Feck this. It was a poor performance from Macklin. Enough of his knockers, if Macklin is not worth a world title it's not for want of trying. I'll back him against any of the current title holders to at least have an honest chance.
