Amir Khan likely to defend title against Paul McCloskey This content is protected Khan's last title defence was against Marcos Maidana in December WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan looks set to defend his title against the European champion Paul McCloskey. Negotiations between the two camps have been taking place for over a fortnight and BBC Sport understands McCloskey has agreed in principle to fight Khan. Official confirmation of the bout is expected by the weekend. If it is given the go-ahead, it is likely to take place at the MEN Arena in Manchester on 16 April. Last week, Khan's father Shah said that an offer had been made to McCloskey from Dungiven. "It is up to them to decide whether to accept it," Khan told the BBC. "We have offered him almost three times what he got paid for his last fight and the ball is in their court - it can happen if they agree to the terms." At that stage hopes of a contest between the two fighters appeared to be receding but there is now renewed belief that the bout could be back on. Khan has stated his aim of unifying the division this year. He wants to fight the winner of the forthcoming bout between the US fighters Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander on 29 January. The 31-year-old McCloskey is unbeaten in 22 fights. He won the European crown by defeating Spain's Daniel Rasilla in 2009 and has defended his belt twice.
From McCloskey's twitter: "Despite reports the fight is not fully agreed yet. There r still issues but we hope that they can be agreed before Friday.Watch this space" http://twitter.com/paul_mccloskey
I watched that wee video of Paddy and Green Jab at the open day for Casey and fair play to both of them - it was a nice thing to do and really adds to the event getting the views of the fans. Kudos, keep it up:good
Interestingly I haven't heard money mentioned at all with Casey-Rigondeaux. I assume Willie is getting a decent payday seeing as he's selling all the tickets but then again I'm sure he took it as soon as it was offered, anyone any insight into the purse?
heard rigo was getting 100k for the fight so cant see casey getting much more than 30k could be wrong tho.
Rigo is getting 120k gary hyde said it was in his contract. Not to bad for what he sees as a soft nights work,:yep

I cant wait for this fight to happen hope theres a decent undercard. It would be nice to have Dean Byrne on the undercard. Do you have any idea if the fight will be delayed for American tv or will it be more 10 bells.
i think its in the ring for around 10 as far as i recall! Dolphil are promising 'the best card Ireland has ever seen'! I cant wait for Sweeney Timms- I know at least three no were to hyde lads are on the bill too
Is Hyde taking the 3 Cuban lads over to the US that have been on some of the Peters card or is that just bull**** talk. Also is there any news on any Peters card maybe Andy Murray fight you would of thought he would of had some sort of fight signed for March at the latest.
Looks like this one goes down the swanny! If someone as experienced as Barry Hearn reckons its a shít deal then I an inclined to believe him. http://www.boxing-ireland.com/20110127_mccloskey_khan_fight_off_21.html
