McEwan Lee fight was offer I couldnt refuse This content is protected Talented middleweight says fight in Britain will come American-based Scot Craig McEwan (19-0) has expressed his disappointment at not being able to fight in his native Britain for the first time on April 16th, but admitted the Andy Lee (24-1) all-Celtic battle on March 12th was an offer too good to turn down. The undefeated 28 year-old will face the Irishman on the undercard of the Sergio Martinez v Sergiy Dzinziruk WBC Diamond middleweight title bout and told World Boxing News that he believes a victory on the night could set him up for a potential shot at the winner. I was really looking forward to fighting in Britain, but I could not pass this opportunity up. It's a big fight against a talented boxer and it's being shown on HBO, explained the Edinburgh boxer. A win against Lee will propel me up the rankings and hopefully get me closer to a world title shot. It's what I've been waiting for. Ideally I would've liked a fight between now and March but that's not going to happen. I'll just make sure I'm well prepared and ready to fight on the night. A fight in Britain will come and this opportunity will open doors for bigger fights in the future, added McEwan.
McEwan: 'I`ll Go to War with Andy Lee!' Scottish and Irish boxing fans on the East Coast of America are gearing up for their Fight of the Year as Holywood-based, Edinburgh middleweight Craig McEwan takes on Limerick's Andy Lee This content is protected at the Foxwoods Caino, Connecticut on 12th March. The fight ,which is being billed by top promoter Lou Di Bello as the Celtic War, is effectively a world title eliminator. Connecticut is deep in the heart of Irish America and it is likely that Lees countrymen will greatly outnumber Scottish fans on the night. However McEwan, who likes to fight as the underdog, will not be fazed by this. This will be the first time I have had a proper training camp This content is protected before a bout and I expect to step into the ring better prepared than I have ever been. I will soon start sparring with top Ukrainian Serhiy Dzinziruk who will fight Sergio Martinez for a World Title on the same bill. Lee's only defeat in 25 professional bouts came against tough Texan Bryan Vera whom unbeaten McEwan later outpointed, and the Scot feels the circumstances of Lee's defeat point the way to Scottish success in Connecticut. Andy is a great fighter and a big hitter but I have watched some of his bouts since he was stopped by Vera and I am amazed that he has been unable to rectify the mistakes which led to his stoppage. He still gets hit too easily. And although the LA based Scot is well known for his slick, counter-punching style he hints at a possible change of strategy this time. If Andy Lee beats me on the 12th of March, he`s going to climb out of that ring knowing he has been in a fight. I'm going to war. I`ll hit him harder and more often than Bryan Vera did and if he can get past me he`ll deserve a shot at the World Title! And McEwan's coach, Freddy Roach, is also confident that his mercurial charge can come good in Connecticut. Craig has been a bit inconsistent in his fights over the last couple of years and he`s had to dig deep against guys he should have blown away. It comes down to preparation. But when he gets the proper pre-fight training he can look like a world beater and that's what we're going to see on 12 March.
Thanks lads, I enjoyed that. Paul has a unique style, throws punches from the strangest of angles. I would have gave him a very good chance of beating Khan if they had of met. I know Khan has superior speed and power, but my gut feeling kept telling me that Paul was going to catch Khan moving forward, maybe catch Khan with a shot he couldn't see coming. And you know the old saying the punch you don't see is the punch that knocks you out. Saving me bottle tops for March. Hope Murtagh gives a good account of himself. Will be interested to hear how Paul Griffin preforms after such and absence. Hope its an enjoyable afternoon for those in attendence.
Bradley is now the WBC champion as they came to an agreement. :-( I fear McCloskey will never get a a shot at a world title.
We can only hope the WBC give Bradley their 'Diamond' belt thus leaving the 'ordinary' vacant They have about three Middleweight 'champions' so it's not unknown Isn't Martinez 'Emeritus Champion' , Zbik 'Ordinary', Chavez Jr 'Silver' or something?
Yeah, some bull**** like that. Fingers crossed they do, wouldn't bank on it though, they only seem to accommodate the money makers in this regard. Nice to see a fellow Beefheart fan. :good
