Would love to get over to some of this although don't reckon there will be too many cheap ryanair flights to London during the games!
You just need to buy the cheapest tickets - the earlier rounds are £20 and the seats will all be good. The Excel will be divided up to service five or six sports - very similar to the layout to the Sydney Olympics, where at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre they hosted boxing, weightlifting, fencing, wrestling etc - and I remember the boxing stadium - it was quite compact, good seats everywhere. The prices for the final is steep I know - but the buzz at the Olympics is very special, try to go if you get the chance.:good
I registered on their site a while back. Gasman do you know if someone who just put doiwn boxing has a better chance of getting tickets than someone who put down every event? Im trying to remember what I put down, think it was just boxing and 400m but I cant remember
I have no idea Tommy, I put down three or four events that I am interested in attending. I'd say you would be ok to get tickets for the early boxing as from memory in Sydney there was a lot of empty seats in the earlier stages. The finals will obviously be harder to get tickets.
If you were able to get tickets to all of the boxing(unlikely I assume) it would cost between £790-£3,640. Considering most people are going to have to pay for accommodation and travel on top of that it really is extortionate, even when you just look at the cheapest option. Or to break down(the cheapest) ticket price: To see all round of 32 fights= £160, over 4 days, 6 hours each day.(24 hours worth) To see all round of 16 fights=£180, over 5 days, 6 hours each day bar the last, which is 3 hours.(27 hours worth) To see all Quarter Final bouts= £150 over 4 days, 2 hours the first day, 6 hours the second, 2 hours the third and 3 hours the 4th.(11 hours worth) To see all semi-final fights=£90 over 2 days, 1.5 hours the first day and 5 hours two days later(6.5 hours worth) To see all finals=£240 over 3 days, 1.5 hours the first day 2.5 hours two days later, followed by another 2.5 hours the last day(6.5 hours worth). Now it's fair enough that the tickets get more expensive as the tournament goes on, but the extent to which they go up seems a bit much. But I suppose demand will dictate price, and the tickets will probably all be bought. If you're not interested in watching the women's fights(and with Katie Taylor involved I'm sure most here rather would see them), you can knock £130-£590 off depending on which price range you go for, but that still leaves £660-£3,050 to watch all of the men's.

Any idea why neither of the Olympic B.C. boxers fought? I would assume it was a club decision, unless it's a coincidence that both got injured in the days leading up to friday :think I don't think either would have been in with much of a shout anyway (both are very decent nonetheless)!! This Adam Nolan bloke seems to be racking up a few nice wins....including over the last few years...could be there at the end :bbb
The answer is simple, don't go then. Just passing on the info incase anyone is interested - I am not on commission y'know Seriously though, if I go i will be catching a few days of the boxing, go to the stadium to see some of the events, and one or two other things - basically a week at the Olympics. But, everyone is different.
More shocks to come over the next 2 weekends i'd say! Joe Ward could definitely take the 81kg title! I thought David Joe Joyce may be there or thereabouts....but having that re-scheduled fight next friday night will probably screw it up for him atsch Patrick Corcoran seems to be on top form in the heavyweights. Con is in good form as always, but i think Corcoran might run him close! Derek Thorpe could sneak the 56kg (people forget he only lost by a couple points to Nevin in last years final- plus he beat Lindberg last weekend) or Tyrone Mccullough could take it too! Michael McDonagh for the lightweight title if he keeps a calm head (and if he goes ahead early against Donovan if they meet- or David Oliver of course:nut)!! I know i'm after throwing a massive spanner in the works here, but i'm new to this and I said i'd drop by. Of course maybe none of these shocks will come off...but i just think they're ones to watch out for. Also, I knew from the website results last week that Con beat T. Mac 5-0 on the paper scoring (and seemingly convincing from what people are saying on this). But does anyone know how convincing it actually was? would it have been a white-wash 13-0 score or more like 9-3? Might seem a bit of a stupid question but i was really interested to see how good McCarthy would do when he moved up. Of course my luck that the computers were broken for their fight :verysad
Oh I'll go alright, accommodation won't cost me extra either as I've relations living in London. Just I won't get to see near as much as I'd like and I'm sure that'll be the case for plenty of other boxing fans.
I suggested a couple shocks that might occur. My post was about 2/3 above your one. Have a look and see wat u think. I'd still fancy the favourites in most cases (mainly 60kg where Donovan or Joyce will probly still win) but shur hav a look anyway:good
The big bang Willie Casey will be on Ireland am tomorrow morning. So I would expect TV3 to do a big build up to his fight on there morning show from now up to the fight. So set the sky plus if your in work in the morning. Also on Saturday night Sunday morning the Junior Witter fight from Canada is live on Setanta Ireland. So a night of boxing with the Frankie Gavin fight on Sky and then the Witter fight.
