Macklin is facing Cristophe Karagoz , who recently went the distance(10 rounds) with Amin Asikainen and has a split decision loss to Mahir Oral in Germany .

 

yip - I'd have Appleby as the favourite over Lindsay as well.

 

1. It's the only way to the British Featherweight title(and considering Appleby's/Simpsons' intentions probably the European too)

2.When one prospect beats another they often inherit their hype .

Appleby still has flaws in him so now is the time to beat him , with the rate he is improving he may become too much for Lindsay in the future .
A win makes him British title mandatory and a shot against John Simpson(who I think Lindsay could beat)
Win that and he could get himself a shot against a very average European champion in Servidei .

It would be a great chance to establish himself in the UK aswell , as although Lindsay would be known in boxing circles around Ireland , Canada and the UK he isn't that well established in any of them yet .

Plus if there is a time to lose it's when your an 11 fight novice , and if there is a person to lose against at that time it's another top prospect .

It's a risk for both fighters(especially Lindsay as he's fighting away) but it's a risk that makes sense .

A few hours after I made that post, I actually caught the Appleby-Odamattey fight on The Fight Network, on the undercard of Anderson-Mcintyre. He did look quite good, but I think I would still have Lindsay as a slight favourite right now. But your right that it could go either way. Would definitely be a good matchup. Hopefully it comes off as planned. Thanks for posting the vids.

 

I actually haven't seen anything of him to be honest , I wasn't able to make either of those two bills and his fights weren't covered on tv .

I keep an eye on the amateur game here but don't follow it in enough detail to be able to tell you much about Kelly........hopefully someone else can help .

I presume you are talking about the McCullough v Martinez fight where Martinez(the European 122 lb champ) came in at 125 3/4 and refused to even try and lose more weight .

I'm sorry for Pat but Martinez seemingly was trying to get one over on Wayne by coming in heavy and presuming Wayne would agree to go ahead with the fight .

I'm guessing Martinez will make 122 fine when defending his European title against Rendall Munroe in March..........the Spaniard is to blame .

Magee probably should of had an ok-ish opponent on standbye for a fight of this order too .
