“Absolutely,” said Shields. “I’ll tell you what I did before I got there. We spent two weeks in Ireland but before I got there, I told them I wanted 20’ X 20’ ring. So when I got there, they was hollering about that they wanted to cut the ring down to 18 feet. I said, ‘No, if this ring is not 20’ X 20’, we are not going to step in it and we will walk right out and get back on the plane.’ I said that is what we are going to do. I don’t know if they believed me or not but that is what I told them. I was talking with Guillermo’s manager at the fight. He mentioned the ring and everything was fine. So then, we were in the dressing room and his manager said, “Man, they put all this padding down. They are slowing the ring down. He won’t be able to move.’ I looked at him and I told him, ‘What are you worried about? I told them about the 20-foot ring so that they would think Guillermo was going to get out there and this kid was going to have to chase him. I said, ‘Don’t worry, everything is fine. Guillermo is not going to run from this kid. We are going straight to him.’ And he looked at me and said, ‘What do you mean? This kid hits hard. This kid has this. This kid doesn’t back up.’ I said, ‘Tonight he will run,’ and he didn’t believe me,” laughed Shields. “I said, ‘There is an old saying: Kill the body and the head will die.’ He said, ‘This kid (Casey) takes a great punch. He’s been hit by the best’ and I said, ‘Look, he hasn’t been hit by the best. You watch and see.’ I said ‘This kid will be lucky to get out the first round.’ And he was so surprised that I told him that. And after the fight, he came to me. And all the reporters, I told them. I said, ‘Willie Casey will get knocked out in this fight and it won’t be long.’ And just like I told them, it happened because this kid made up his mind what he was going to do.”

yeah its usually just one judge picks a winner based on rounds and not shots landed, Important to look busy throughout White Collar fights. One thing to note is most White Collar fights your both trying to take the head off each other and when you get punched in the face you automatically think "bollix, i'm losing" and going wild instead of staying focused and just boxing clever. Body punches are rarely ever used in these fights and as we all know can be show effective.

The 2010 first match even outshone Khan and Maidana for edge of the seat action and rivalry with pure boxer taking on rugged puncher in a battle between Mexico and Puerto Rico.
This is one fight not to be missed in 2011.

On April 23rd we will be covering the Showtime Bantamweight Tournament final live from the Nokia Centre, LA. This superb event will feature 2 top class fights with Joseph 'King Kong' Agbeko defending his IBF title against undefeated rising star Abner Mares while Vic Darchinyan takes on Yonnhy Perez in the consolation bout.

Delighted to see "King Kong" Agbeko fighting on Setanta this will be a great fight!! Trained in the same gym as him in New York while he was preparing himself for his last fight, he can go all day. Setanta are upping there game again when it comes to boxing coverage, great to see.

Kiko: I wont fight Casey
23 March 2011 - Jonny Stapleton Kiko Martinez has closed the door on a potential super bantamweight European title fight with Willie Casey.
Martinez, who hopes to be crowned continental ring king for the third time after a clash with Jason Booth in May, was touted as a possible route back to the big time for Casey after the Limerick man’s unsuccessful WBA Interim attempt. However the Spaniard is adamant Big Bang will not explode straight back into European title contention if he reclaims the belt he vacated to let Casey and Paulie Hyland contest the first ever all Irish EBU fight back in November.
Indeed if 'Mini Tyson' is successful in winning the strap Casey gave up to fight the sensational Guillermo Rigondeaux, he claims the Dolphil promoted star is the last person he would defend against. Martinez, who had Bernard Dunne gone in 86 seconds, claims the pint sized slugger’s team reneged on an agreement to defend against the Spaniard and as a result, team Martinez are happy to let Casey take the long road back to the top.
Despite trading verbal blows with the fellow former European champ out side the ring, further creating an appetite for what would be deemed an Irish revenge mission in the process, La Sencasion is adamant he will never trade punches in side squared circle with Casey. Replying to inquires made by www.irish-boxing.com, Team Martinez made the following statement.
“Kiko is always confident he will beat Jason Booth and become European champion for the third time. When he regains his title the last person he would consider as an opponent is Willie Casey. Willie got blown out of the ring in search of a mickey mouse title. We have actually given Willie enough chances. He would not have been European champion if Kiko had not got injured and vacated. Wille shook hands in the ring in Limerick and agreed to defend the belt against Kiko, but he backed out of the agreement. Let him do it the hard way now and lets see how far he can get. Kiko does understand why Willie took the world title fight. You have to do what you can for your family and hopefully Willie got a good pay day.
“However, putting Willie in against Rigondeaux was like sending a lamb to the slaughter. How can you put someone who has won 10 fights in with someone who has had 400 fights, been an Olympic champion and world amateur champion? It was very bad mistake. Kiko is going to write himself into the history books by being a three time European champion. He will then go on to become world champion. We are going forward not backwards and are going for a real world title not an interim.”

 

It doesn't matter really because Booth should handle Martinez easily enough.
