McCloskey pay-cut key to Khan fight going ahead Phil D. Jay WBN Editor Irishman will have to agree to less money or world title challenge is off European light-welterweight champion Paul McCloskey has been locked in talks with Khan Promotions about taking a pay-cut on his already small purse to ensure his WBA 140lb title challenge against Amir Khan goes ahead a week today at the MEN Arena in Manchester. The bout has been removed from Sky Sports scheduling until an agreement is reached between all parties, with 24 year-old titleholder Khan already taking a massive cut from £1.25 million to £250,000 and McCloskey, 31, is expected to at least half his purse or the fight could be called off. Its been a week of turmoil for the Khan camp and whether it affects his mental state in the ring or not, remains to be seen on Saturday night. With his conditioning trainer being sacked and Freddie Roach training Manny Pacquaio at the same time, to the Sky Box Office fiasco, it all cant be helping the Brits prepartions for his homecoming. The fight is expected to go ahead as planned as McCloskey is not thought to be considering pulling out of his first world title shot over a money wrangle and will still pick up his biggest ever career purse. The whole debacle will leave a bad taste in the champions mouth though and it may be the last time he fights in Britain for the foreseeable future.
Levan Ghvamichava will fight Daniel Rasilla on the 28th of May at The Holiday Inn Hotel Belfast on another one of Alie Wilton's electric shows.
So Levan will have faced 2 european title challengers after 4 fights of his career? Thats some going in fairness. At least I think his opponent on the Casey card had been a euro challenger
It looks like Hyde has Levan on the fast track, and why not if hes got the talent. He could be european champion within 10 fights.
He was yeah. Levan's a beast and he's on the fast track. No way is any Irish lad getting in with him over the next year. And like the Jackal said, thank Zaur, he's the one who got him for Hyde, fellow Georgians and that
McBride has chance to add another upset to résume NEWARK Kevin McBride has long been known as the guy who put an end to Mike Tysons boxing career. The 37-year-old Irishman who lives in Dorchester will get a chance to add another highlight to his résumé tonight when he attempts to deprive Tomasz Adamek of a potential heavyweight title fight against one of the Klitschko brothers. Adamek, 34, will get his shot at a big payday in September if he can defeat McBride in a 12-round bout at the Prudential Center. Before my big fight in September I must beat Kevin, Adamek said. I respect Kevin and I am ready. I will give all my fans a good show, because I am a warrior. This is my destiny. Under the deal announced earlier this year, the Klitschkos will decide who fights Adamek (43-1, 28 KOs), a native of Gilowice, Poland, who now lives in Kearny, N.J. Vitali Klitschko retained his WBC heavyweight title against Odlanier Solis with a first-round knockout March 19. He is likely to get the title shot because Wladimir, the IBF and WBO champ, is likely to face fellow titleholder David Haye this summer. Adameks fight against one of the Klitschkos would be in Poland in September in Warsaw or Wroclaw, at one of the stadiums being built for soccers 2012 European Championship. Poland is co-hosting the tournament with Ukraine, the home country of the Klitschkos. However, Adamek must beat McBride, who ended Tysons career in 2005 when the former champ failed to answer the bell for the seventh round. You know, I did say Im going to shock the world and beat Mike Tyson, and I did do what I said, McBride said. Im not going to say that I am going to shock the world when I beat Tomasz Adamek, but Im going to upset the world and especially the Polish people because Im here to win. Talks cheap and you have to put it together on that night. The fight against McBride (35-8-1) was originally scheduled for April 24, but was pushed up so as not to conflict with Easter. This is a big opportunity for me, McBride said. Its probably my last chance to show the world that I have what it takes. As a kid growing up I wanted to be the first-born Irish heavyweight champion of the world. Adamek is in the way and hopefully after I beat Adamek I get an opportunity to fight for the world title and show the world. This content is protected
I think Lee's hard hitting straight left would land before Lemeiux had the chance to get inside. I think it's a case of styles make fights. Of course if Lemeiux got inside Lee right now Lee could be in trouble. Lee is not invincible as we all know but he has the punch power to stop Lemeiux. It's frustrating watching Lee sometimes because he doesnt seem to try his combos enough. Insted he go's for the single big punch which is telegraphed a lot. When he throws the jab first, or better still a double jab he is way more likely to land the big straight. Straights beat hooks though which is why I think Lee would have beat him. Lemeiux will probably learn to box more now and reserve the explosiveness for later rounds which should make him better in the future.
As said styles makes fights Lee beat Rubio easy Lemeiux beats Lee at the moment.Andy has a lot of flaws but is our best lad at the minute IMO (apart from Fitz that is)
