    all the extra ticket that were released on ticket master on friday morning ...went in no time at all... here shamrock it would prob. cost you your left ball to get a ticket at this mo.

    That,s right big ears, blame everyone expect McCullough. It was a non-title fight, boxers coming in over the agreed weight happens all the time. It was only 1 3/4lb not a stone. McCullough was offered compensation.Wayne acted like a prima donna and effectively scuppered the promotion.The blame lies with both fighters, but it was McCullough who refused to fight, not Martinez.I'm a big McCullough fan, but he really disappointed the Belfast fight fans that day by his actions.

    Hello Fra, it's very early in Belshaws career to make bold statements about his future, but so far so good.Scott needs to be taken along slowly, as he as a lot to learn.But Belshaws trainer Alan [Alio] Wilton intends to keep "big Scott" busy with four fights in just under two months. Scotts first outing of the year will obviousely be in Cork on Saturaday 26th January. Then the English promoter Frank Maloney has promised Scott a fight in England in Febuary. Belfast Promotions run their first show of the year on March 1st, a promotion that Belshaw will headline.And finally and more importantly, Scott will travel to the US and box on the undercard of a show headlined by James Moore on ST Patricks wekend. This event will be televised by ESPN. A busy schedule but one I hope "Ding Ding" Belshaw can meet.

    I'm interested in what you guys think of notable Irish-american boxers of the past. Names like John L. Sullivan, James J. Corbett, Jack Dempsey, Gene Tunney, Micky Walker, Harry Greb (1/2 Irish, 1/2 German), Tommy Loughran, Philadelphia Jack O'Brien, Terrible Terry McGovern, Jimmy McLarnin, Billy Conn, all these legends who were Irishmen. Does it count for you that they were Irish-americans? I am just curious. Also, who did you root for when "Irish" Micky Ward from Lowell, MA fought Shea "the shamrock express" Neary from Liverpool, United Kingdom? I was glad that Ward won. I thought that guy went over the top when he pressed his face into Micky's during the ref's instructions. Ward was never into silly staredowns. Neary was a tough cookie though and gave Micky all he could handle before that signature left hook to the body crumbled Neary. Also, the late Jerry Quarry - the Irish=american battler from Los Angeles, CA. I spoke to some boxing fans from Ireland about 10 years ago or so. That barely knew who Quarry was. this surprised me.

    I as an Irishman take great pride in the fighters you mentioned.The fact that they were born in the US isn't important. I started boxing in the 70s when I was around 7 or 8, I could have told you then who Gerry Quarry was[my older brothers were boxing fanatics and we would have watched all the fights togather]. Quarry and then Cooney were keenly supported in our household.They were considered Irish in our books.

    i have often heard my da talk about those guys.... yeah Irish billy conn when louis said before there rematch "he can run but he cant hide"....john l sullivan when he entered a bar " i will lick anyone in this bar" yeah cool guy.... all them fighter were characters.

    most of the boxing i know about.... my dad told me.... he loves his boxing.... and im starting to get were he is coming from.

    I am really into Irish boxing on both sides of the pond. Irish American boxers have a very rich history (actually more accomplished than those in Ireland), fighting their way out of the streets in the northeast cities. I have noticed a lot of fans from Ireland and Great Britian are annoyed or laugh at Irish American boxer who use to the nickname "Irish", but to me it represents the continuation of a rich boxing history. Although one of the last "Irish" American fighters like Micky is now retired i am glad to see newly arrived fighters like Lee, Duddy, and Moore, carrying the torch.
