I was on an airplane a few days ago finishing Reg Gutteridge's book and read the Henry Cooper chapter. I have known about Cooper since I was a kid and remember the profile he got from the Ali knock down etc.

But, up until a few days ago I did not know about the whole controversy about the ripped gloves and how Ali's (Clay) trainer Anglo Dundee had expedited this problem in favour of Ali to buy extra time after the thunderous KD that Ali suffered a few seconds before the end of the fourth. Also, the rule at the time was that the boxer had to continue for an additional round before the glove could be changed (if it was bad enough to be replaced) and Dundee ripped the glove (it is disputed if he ripped it completely or just made a bad rip worse)....

I saw a couple of his fights with Erskine and in one of them (that I saw) he truly wrecked Erskine - leaving his opponent resting on a bottom rope with his leg twitching. He definitely lived up to his reputation as a heavy hitter as well as a bleeder.

Still, a sad loss to boxing.

    RIP Henry Cooper.

Yup. He was spouting some nonsensical comparison between the uppercuts of McCloskey and Hamed. Definitely shouldn't be taken seriously regardless of what claims he makes about his coaching prowess.

if that is Perez new opponent Ive only seen his last fight when he got absolutely sparked on the Bradley vs Alexander card. Id be surprised if Smith faces Lindsay within his next couple fights. He looked so poor in many rounds against Simpson and couldnt handle the pace so Id think Warren will give him a couple of confidence boosters. Who is the European Champ at feather? Id love to see Simpson and Lindsay rematch, maybe for the celtic title and eliminator for the european. Both are better than Smith at the moment imo

    ture legend all right.

I only discovered about a year ago that the Ali fight was delayed for far less than it was originally claimed, not sure of the exact time but I think it was only a couple of seconds

He looks better than he has done but let's not fool ourselves there is still serious room for improvement there.
