I missed the fights yesterday - seems like Lee was impressive but McCloskey was poor.Was Mc Closkeys chin tested ? , thats still a question mark for me

 

Lee was impressive, he looked more measured and controlled from the Vera bout. He has a bit to go before fighting for the title, but he is getting there.
Mccloskey looked scrappy at times, but he was getting hit here more than normal, maybe worryingly this is a sign of things to come when he moves up in class. He deserved to win the contest, but.....:think

 

Yeah, I missed the fight as well. Can tell it was good value though!

McCloskey was never bothered by any shots really in the fight, It's quite surprising how well he took Wright's vicious body shots considering his flabbyness . Maybe it's just genetics but with the way Paul looks coming into the ring I think they should try and get him down to Lightweight .

It was a hard fight for him but he did just about get the better of it and it could be the type of fight that makes him . He could have made things so much easier if he boxed from the outside but even on the inside if he had just been more active and aggressive he could have still made the win a lot clearer . But again that could be down to conditioning . I think if they want to keep him at Light-Welterweight then they should contract his fights at 140 and nothing above it to make sure he comes in at an okay weight and does his work in training .

Was there and i thought it was definetly the best card put on by Peters yet.Lee and Mc cCloskeys contests were worth the money alone but there were some interesting and exciting undercard bouts for once.Keith Cresham looked to be about to stop his guy before he got caught with agreat shot that virtuallly ended the contest.
Haughian was down in the first but battled back to deserve his win against an always dangerous opponent.
Mc guinness o donnel and mc kay all boxed well to take their wins but for me the most entertaining was Jamie Power i hadnt sen him box as apro before but he got the whole crowd going he made alot of rookie mistakes and was way to over eager to get his tough as nails journey man opponent out of there but he did show agood jab when he eventually used it and he has obvious power.Wont be aworld champ but i'll lok forward to seeing him again.A good night all round well done BPP

I think we've a month of in August before we get another 3 cards(minimum) in September .

Paddy Hyland has a bill involving his sons on the 6th of September at the Citywest hotel .

Gary Hyde has a bill involving the 3 Cubans, Gary O'Sullivan, Michael Sweeney, Jamie Power and Ian Tims on the 13th of September at the Neptune stadium .

Brian Peters has I think at least one show planned for September but no idea involving who, where or exactly when .

Hopefully it won't be too long till Egan has another promotion aswell .

Well a poster on the British forum has informed me that Branco is likely to face Witter next, if an agreement can't be made it will go to purse bids and that Barnes has been mandated to face Lynes , so Paul might have to wait a while before he gets his chance at a title .

I'll probably be moving accross the water to go to University, but if a card like that was happening anywhere in Ireland I'd head home for it .

The Odyssey seems the best place for a Duddy World title fight if he's able to get it in Ireland but Phillips camp seem dead against coming over here .

 

A great turn around from a very humble Andy Lee, and impressive in regards to 'HIT WITHOUT BEING HIT'

 

I believe that Andy has two styles (1)his beautifull amateur hit and not be hit style and (2) his pro kronk style of controlling with big long shots and quick combos.
Saturday night for the first time he combined the two and the result was the best Irish performance since Collins beat Eubank IMO
That is the way forward for him and a european title could be his in the next 6 months if he wants it.
Again nice to see him take his local club flag into the ring (St Francis)Power did the same I think it shows a good respect for their old club.
