was this not the girl that was meant to cause her a few probs or at least test her? Katie is unreal-anyone reckon she could be promoted in ireland and sell out shows. the reaction she gets is unreal-i think she would do the staduim no problem- if she could do O2 maybe no need for her to go America? I know the sports press would get behind her- not to mention all the women's mags etc!
I dont think anyone, including team GB expects Cameron to beat Taylor. Think its more of a hope she gets the other side of the draw and manages a silver. In fairness to the girl shes only been boxing 18 months and is 18 or 19
I remember hearing that somewhere too. She has beaten quite a few big names in the 18months that she has been boxing. Even beating them nearly as convincingly as Katie had been. Dominic o' rourke said this was the best he had ever seen Katie box. You'd nearly begin to think that she takes it a bit handy on most opponents and then when the pressure is on (i.e. everyone in Britain talking about this girl) she kicks ass! Wat a legend in fairness :happy
legend is right- and withoutwire- in fairness she gets massive reception when she fights in pro ams. I think the boxing public would come out and if the play the women card right she could generate some female support. she will get more publicity than any male boxer turning pro- etc She will have a good career regardless-just selfishly wishing she has it based here...
I'm not sure I agree. The pro side of the sport is growing in the US and Germany, but it's hard to tell about Ireland. I mean I would guess that 75% of the posters on here would probably pay money to see katie as a pro. I can imagine in years to come that people will look back and say that womens boxing was once a minority sport (which it still might be in years to come but not to the extent it was 5 years ago) only to point at people like Katie who put it on the map. I mean I could name 6/7 pro boxers (womens) right now but most people on here are probably hard core fans anyway. But if you look at the undercard of ths biggest shows here Katie certainly got the loudest cheers and she is probably a bigger house hold name than any of the lads at this stage with the exception of possibly Egan. Now for selfish reasons I would rather she stayed AM and was in the running for Brazil 2016 also. That said, if she goes pro I will be glad to be a customer, especially when she mixes with live opponents. With DOB behind her now for the next 5 yearrs I think it probably means he wants her to stay am also and benefit from a medalist. just imagine the advertising revenue from a gold medal etc. I think she is about to be realised as one of Irelands sporting legends and I'd like to think she is already ahead of the likes of Sonia O'sullivan etc. Ironically, I think if we do well in the mens at London, it will only highlight Katie's achievements even more to the public. I mean imagine if say Nevin or Egan got silvers, Barnes got a silver and Katie got the gold. Or even if Barnes and Katie got the gold. They would be the 2 leading a parade around dublin in front of thousands similar to Carruth & McCullogh etc. Also, Katie is a perfect PR figure.
She would yeah - dream venue is MSG and she'd have to turn pro for that eh! Most of the amateurs right now won't entertain any talk about much else other than London.
People know who she is so give her a good reception out of respect but how many go to the stadium to watch her box when shes on there?
id say he will have to get a knock out there would need to be a knock out in either carl's or andy's fight for him to get on it! There was more on BBC Northern Ireland news re O'Kane going pro than Carl's fight. Have to say the TV BBC and UTV news are great supporting boxing- you never see RTE doing that.
