I just heard some interesting news from a friend. A new boxing promoter is running a professional show in Killarney at the end of October. Can anyone shed more light on this.:think

 

Whatever about Nevin and Sutherland I seriously recommend you don't put money on Barnes. He's a decent fighter but his weight class is just far too strong.

To make things that slight bit harder than they seemed a few days ago his weight class was one of the two that received wild card entries(an extra fighter in the division), but it's not just tougher because his class has 29 fighters now, the guy called up beat him in the Commonwealth games .

When you consider guys like David Ayrapetyan, Luis Yanez, Harry Tanamor,Amnat Ruanroeng are there aswell as Shiming and Bedak and that Barnes has lost to Nordine Oubaali and Simanga Shiba .

I'm sure the Cuban entry while not as strong as other weights will be pretty decent and the Kazakh boxer is pretyy decent too you're looking at an extremely difficult task for Barnes.

Even with a good draw he's still have to beat too many quality fighters to have a realistic chance at medaling.

Light-Flyweight is very, very tough.

 

oh when will this bloody thread die! the us will crush all irish boxers in china just wait and see!

I was told that the UL arena is prebooked for Andy Lee's next fight the last weekend in october or the first in november.Hope we dont get a clach again with Phil Sutcliffe tesing the water in Kerry on the 26th. of October.Any news about Dunne next one?I hope he steps up for this one he has had two soft comeback opponenets now is the time to kick on.

A friend of mine from Limerick saw it in a local paper.I asked about the gleneagle and he reckons with a ring in there could still hold about 2 thousand.

 

Nevin seems to be everybodies pick ATM:yep

 

It's because he's never faced the top guys at Bantamweight in the seniors, thus never proven he's not good good enough to beat them, but has proven he can beat some of the decent mid level Olympic guys during qualifying.

That and a lot of people have commented on his style being very suited to Olympic style boxing, which is true.

He probably does have our best chance of a medal but it's going to be very hard for him against the real top guys, having never been in at that level before.
