It was disappointing to see young Nevin go out, he just met the wrong guy at the wrong time.:-(

Excellent article Ardy. I don't understand what happened to Gary Keegan though - why does he not have the same access as the other members of the team? Are there only so many passes per country? It seems a bit silly and very disappointing that someone who has given 5 years of his life to the whole qualification process is excluded at this stage. Maybe someone can clear this up for me.

Darren Sutherland wins - what power. His style is that of a professional and not an amateur however and this might tell against cuter fighters from here on in.

I found a live stream, Sutherland was devastating. Great power! will make an awesome pro. But I can still see him progressing at this games.

Good wins for both Irish guys although the competition wasnt of the highest tier.I suspect that Kenny Egan will be our only medalist of these games.
Blanco has already beaten Sutherland easily and i saw nothing today to change that IMO
Although the pole looked ragged today he did beat a very good and experienced commonwealth games champion he also holds a convincing win over Paddy in Ireland and is very strong.
Hope i'm wrong but thats the way i see it.

    My predictions
    Egan for a silver medal
Paddy may sneak a bronze (heart over head on this one)
Sutherland will find Blanco to much.

Hello Mick,I think the way it works is the Olympic Village is only open to athletes and coaches, and not management officials which is what Gary Keegan is[although we all know he is more than that, Gary has been the main driving force behind the high performance team and will be sadly missed when he takes up his new job].

Also well done to Sutherland and Barnes, although these results were expected, I thoroughly enjoyed the bouts all the same.
