...hows it going Ardy...dont blame you for being pissed off about the scoring system.. but actually the computer system is the best system of all if used properly... i have judged under both codes...the biggest problem is the judges/ referees.. ninety percent have never boxed and consequently dont know what a scoring punch is!! And it gets much more dangerous when they get inside the ropes because a lot of them dont know when a boxers in trouble ie. Darren Sutherlands fight today when his opponent was out on his feet and he didnt stop the bout.. As for the politics of the sport..think of the Eurovision..only ten times more corrupt..Anyway Ardy you guys are doing a service to Irish boxing here..Keep up the good work!!!!:good
Thanks Pat, but amateur boxing is suffering greatly because of this scoring system. If I had my way, it should would go back to the old judging system, along with the 3x3 rounds[which is meant to be coming back], and also scrap the headguards.A french official is proposing these matters in a radical shake-up of the amateur code.Good luck to him.
Hi Ardy, I agree with you about the scoring system, there are too many dickheads with thumbs on buttons. And biased as well. I see guys getting knocked over for an 8 count and still no point scored. The 3x3 rds is back after the games so I hear. I believe amateurs should always wear headguards though, in training and in competition. Think of the head damage to these young people without headgear? They go down with a punch and their head hits the floor...as well as the full effects from the punch! CUTS from head clashes etc; young boxers just don't need that exposure Ardy, they need protection. Hell, some were muting bringing in headgear for the pros. What do you think the medical fraternity would say if we removed that safeguard from our young boxers!? Keep the headgear Ardy.
..Ardy. the problem with the old system is if a boxer wins two rounds of the three he is the winner unless the other fighter literally knocks him out...with the computer system a boxer can win no matter what the score in the previous round...
Hows it going Shamrock, I hope you have been keeping up with the games. Outside of preventing cuts, there is no conclusive proof that headguards prevent brain damage, in actual fact your peripheral vision is obscured by headguards, meaning that your more susceptible to hooks.Showing my age here, but years ago we fought without headguards, and I even hated wearing headguards for sparing, I felt I was in a box looking out. So I can't agree with you on that issue shamrock.:hi:
some medical researches into the use of the headguard say that it adds more weight to the head thus adding more impetus to the punch and causing brain injury...
Fair enough Pat, it wasn't perfect but when you look at the Sutherland fight today,he floored his opponent in the first and still only drew the round,in the third a standing 8 count wasn't even awarded a point for the punch that landed, it's not right. It wont stop me from watching the sport but it annoys me greatly.
christ i missed the sutherland fight this morning....couldnt get out of my pit...but i seen it on the bbc later....**** that boy is 1 strong dude...he is a real crowd pleaser....and my tip 4 a medal is still in also... wee barnes is on the way 2 a bronze...yee ha:good
Amazing that Pat when the weight in the competition headgear we use is hardly noticable. And Ardy, of course we all would prefer not to use one at the gym. I get that all the time in the gym with the islanders wishing to work withoiut one. With the risk of cuts etc; and damage to the nose from the head, I always decline the requests, besides, the risk of hitting the back of the head on the floor in a knockdown is very real and the headgear can remove some of the danger of head damage. I guess we just agree to disagree Ardy. :good

Felix Diaz who John Joe Joyce lost to on countback is in the medals after beating his opponent 11:6 in the light-welter quarter final. I feel even more pissed off for John Joe now.
