Whether you think he is B level or not he will be challenging at world level in his next contest. Although winning is another matter.
I thought the verdict could have went either way but was obviously delighted with the result. And young Frampton showed a lot of class in his perforformance, but there's still room for improvement in terms of his workrate. But all in all it was a great night for Irish boxing, and lets hope the Fury and Rogan promotions are the resounding success this one was.

McCloskey – Prescott: Another hometown decision or did the judges make the right choice?

    September 11th, 2011
By Dallan O’ Donnell: After a superb contest last night between Paul McCloskey and Breidis Prescott which was very close to call we are again left with the burning question of Hometown decision? Personally I think the judges made the RIGHT choice in picking McCloskey as he did more in the important rounds – the championship rounds.

He showed the heart we have come to expect of him while Prescott faded away as once again his stamina proved to be his downfall. Prescott was a dominant force however in the early rounds and had McCloskey rocked often with his big right hand. McCloskey was down also but in reality it wasn’t a true knockdown. It was more of a forearm
    This content is protected
from Prescott which barely landed, than full on contact that put McCloskey off balance rather than rocking him. It looked for all the day as if Prescott had the fight in the bag and a Knockout seemed inevitable but in stunning fashion McCloskey turned the fight upside down and began to wear Prescott down, round after round he attacked and landed superb body shots which led to Prescott’s defeat.
Now onto the controversy in which some other writers and fans alike claim that Prescott was robbed. This is wildly inaccurate. Yes Prescott dominated the early rounds, but ran out of steam and McCloskey piled on the pressure and in the end deserved the victory and it shouldn’t be taken away from him by an ill informed minority.
McCloskey fought a hard fight and now deserves a second shot at becoming a world champion. A fight with Marcos Maidana is on the cards but would Paul have what it takes to beat the hardened Maidana? I don’t think so. One thing is for sure though is he deserves his second chance and will get his opportunity soon.
As for Prescott? Another rebuilding job is on the cards but is it really worth it? He will never be a world level fighter and to those who believe he would beat Khan now? Times have changed. Khan is far too good. Perhaps even too good for McCloskey. Don’t forget to follow me on Twitter: @dallan09 or Facebook

He's not out till next week, he was there though. With his buddy Levan, the odd couple.
Said he's still well up for a fight with Jackal but down the line, not yet. Can't say I blame him.

He's not on till Saturday on the Fury card. I had it in my head that he was fighting on the card last night for some reason too.

    Edit: See ahsure answered.
