    Who beat him Matt?

Delighted Lee won last night. He looked very good but **** me he needs to sort his defence out and quick. He shouldnt be getting hit as much by a fighter like Vera. Saying that though vera was game as **** last night. Dont know he took some of those shots.

Sounds ominous, Matt. Moylette hasn't been beaten that wide in a long time. Was he really that bad - or are the Indians getting as strong as the Chinese?

Great that Conlon's through though. He's a lot of people's favourite boxer on the Irish team these days - and that's saying something!

Bit more info on both bouts would be much appreciated.

Conlan and Ward make last 16 in Baku

    Sunday, 2 October 2011 14:46
Ireland's Michael Conlan and Joe Ward are into the last 16 of the AIBA World Championships and Olympic qualifiers in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Conlan, from the St John Bosco club in Belfast, secured an 18-17 win in the 52kg category.
But there was disappointment for Westport boxer Ray Moylette, who was comprehensively beaten 19-7 by Manoj Kumar of India in the 64kg division.

Meanwhile, Joe Ward , the 17-year-old sensation from Moate in Co Westmeath, stormed his way to the last 16 in the light heavyweight division this afternoon.
Conlan led by 7-4 after the first round, and while the Kazakh fighter closed the gap as Conlan tired, the Belfast boxer held on for a win that puts him within sight of qualifying for London 2012.
The Belfast flyweight will meet number two seed Nordine Oubaali of France in the last 16 on Tuesday for a place in London next year.
European Lightwelter champion Moylette started predictably slowly against Commonwealth champion Kumar, but still trailed just 5-3 after the opening round.
The second was crucial as Kumar showed his class with a range of punches as Moylette strugged to reach the target.
At the end of the second round Moylette was clearly in deep trouble as he trailed by 12-4.
Worse was to follow in the third round as a body punch had Moylette on his knees gasping for air and taking a count.
The Mayo man was disappointed afterwards, acknowledging to RTÉ Sport that his slow start caused him trouble and that based on this performance he just simply wasn't good enough.
He now concentrates on the last chance to qualify for the London Olympics next year when the final qualifying championships will take place in Turkey in April 2012.
Joe Ward has won his fight today, further details to follow.
The other Irish fighters in action today are Roy Sheehan and Con Sheehan.
Ward stormed his way to the last 16 this afternoon.

Right from the bell, Ward looked in control and piled body shots and left and right hooks on to the body of Dilobarsho Abduraklymnov from Tajikistan, who had stopped a Bulgarian in the first round of his previous bout. At the end of the first round Ward led 3-1.

Abduraklymov seemed incapable of breaking down Ward's defensive setup and consequently Ward charged ahead with a series of body punches that complimented shots that were also easily reaching the chin of the Tajikistan boxer.

The only drama of round two came when Ward recieved a low blow, which Aburaklymov received a two-point penalty for, and which didn't help his cause. At the end of round two it was 13-3 in Ward's favour.

Round three was a mere formality as the Tajikistan boxer knew he was a beaten man and would be heading home beaten by a young teenager from Westmeath that Ireland and the world will hear a lot more about.

The final score at the end of round 3 was 22-4. Ward is in the last 16 and one bout away from Olympic qualification and London 2012.
Con Sheehan and Roy Sheehan will be between the ropes between 3pm and 4.30pm today (Irish time).

It would be a tough fight but your dead right - Andy definately has the ability and the tools to beat him..

I hope Macklin and Lee are kept apart until one (or both :happy) have a world title.

Con turned on the style in the second, forced two counts and stopped his opponent.
Cammerelle next and you'd never know, he was dropped in his fight to-day.

    22-4? Jaysus he's some man.

Nice to see Lee's defence tighten up. He could work on it some more. He got caught a few solid shots when he got predictable when leading off but he's a good solid chin so it's not the biggest deal.

Martinez looked terrible against Barker to be honest. He was blessed to win the fight in the end. I think the fact Barker hadn't been in against such a concussive puncher is what let Sergio off the hook. He stuck to the one gameplan that wasn't working for the whole night. I'd be interested to know what the cards were at the time of stoppage. I'd say he was maybe 1 or 2 points up.

I'd like Andy to have one more fight before a world title bid at least. Someone who has been in and around world level for a while. Rubio maybe? Is he still active?
