He should never have taken the fight in the first place. ****** was feeding him to the lions tonight. What a **** way to get your first pro defeat. No time to prepare for a fight. I hope ****** backs him now after this defeat as to save this bill he stepped in and didnt need to. I as surprise Arnie let him take this fight so soon after a poor display. Needs to sort his defence big time. Next fight for Deano will be make or break.
Whats the story Deano? do you's think the long lay off and a fight a wk ago was the main cause of his 1st defeat, or would he have lost to that guy anytime? I think taking a fight within a wk of your 1st fight back after several months is nuts when you still have ring rust, I feel sorry for him because he needs to catch up and after tonight even more so than ever. Hopefully he gets out in a month or 2 against tamer opposition just to hone his skills and build confidence. It would be a shame for a fighter that has been touted for greatness by Freddie Roach not succeed at Euro level competition.
Not knocking dean but Freddie roach talks an awful lot of shite. Great trainer but full of hyperbole. All ya have to do is look at the Shaquille o neill thread floating around for evidence of that
Yes, in principle that is spot on. But, he has a family to look after (isnt that the reason he came back from the States) and he would have got a good pay day for saving the show - so fair enough. I have only seen him twice (his last two fights) and regardless of ring rust/lack of preparation - I worry about his defence.
a respectable showing by mcguinness 2day...but he was always fiting an uphill battle with the southern media who were clearly under orders from their paymasters to hound him from the getgo... the positive thing is sinn feins vote in the south is coming from mostly the younger generation who look on the conflict in a historical context and are now looking for radical change to the tired old satus quo ... whereas the middle age and upwards [mostly] have been brainwashed in years gone by conversative and hypocritical southern media and will probabley never swing our way... tis is problem we are looking at... brown envelops maybe:good
was delighted when he tore into gallagher the other night real iron in his words and he has a stare on him like roy keane :good dont think he really wanted to be president do i think he was running to increase sinn feins profile
m8...martin was put on the defensive from the start in this election... about his membership of the ira and did he ever kill any1atsch... sure if he did so ****... he should have come out like that from the start the way he did with gallagher with 2 gunz blazing... proud of his past... and taking it 2 the media... sure he wouldnt have been the first former ira volunteer 2 hold that office:good
Over at the U21s tonight some impressive fights and fighters. Fight of the night was the fight between Shane Roche and Joel Scullion, fighter of the night was close between Emmet Brennan and Tommy McCarthy. One terrible decision was the "Martin Wall (Crumlin) vs Rohan Date (St Pauls)" decision thought it was so wrong. And i would have given the Gavin McComb (Immaculata) VS Hugh Myres (Ryston) contest the reverse result, although the fight between the families in the crowd was entertaining and Myers little sister has a big future in boxing with that jab and no fear in going head to head with the 28+ year old fella that tried to stick it to her(coward)! But the most disgusting incident of the night was when i caught one of the head coaches of Golden Cobra boxing club making a ****** gesture to his mates and pointing to Kenneth Okungbowa in the ring after he lost, i wasnt sure at first as i was in shock but i confirmed it with an equally shocked friend of mine, on the way out i then heard him chatting with a few 16 year old girls laughing while one of them said "ah he should f*ck off he's not even from this country" ruined a good night!
I agree with him taking the fight also from an exposure and monetary point of view, and it was a contest that Dean could have won if properly prepared. But I thought the stoppage was a joke, Dean never looked hurt at any time plus was still very competitive when he was retired. I never much liked Farnell as a boxer and it appears he's as bad a boxer as he is a coach, this is boxing [ a tough sport where boxers are meant to box and take their licks when things aren't going their way ] and there's way to much premature stoppages in the game. I'm not advocating that a boxer should be nailed to the canvas before he is deemed a loser, but these stoppages are ruining the game. Belfast picked up six male titles last night, pleased with that. Levan Ghvamichava won lost night in 2rds. This kid seems unreal I hope Pat Magee puts him on the show in Belfast on the 3rd December. Holy Trinity BC claim under-21 hat-trick Saturday, 29 October 2011 12:25 The Holy Trinity BC in Belfast registered a hat-trick at Friday's U21 Championships finals at the National Stadium in Dublin. Sean McComb, Mark O'Hara and Conrad Cummings had their hands raised in triumph for the Turf Lodge academy at the home of Irish boxing. Derry light-flyweight Blaine Dobbins won the first title of the evening courtesy of a 16-11 win over Antrim's TJ Waite. Dobbins led this contest 5-4 and 8-7 at the end of rounds one and two and held his composure in the face of some serious pressure from Waite in the final frame to pick off another eight points. Michelle Jannick claimed the first of the 51kg titles following a see-saw battle with Jade Corcoran. The lead changed hands three times in this encounter before Jannick emerged with five points to spare over her Crumlin BC opponent. The men's 51kg final between Hugh Myres and Gavin McComb was tipped in advance to produce Halloween fireworks. And neither flyweight disappointed with punches flying in from all angles in a first round which finished 3-3. McComb edged the next frame to command an 8-7 lead going down the final stretch. Myres came storming back in the third, catching McComb with a combo midway through the frame. However, McComb landed some neat shots of his own to shade a 15-14 win. "This is my first Irish title and I've been waiting all my life for it. It was a tough one, especially the third round and I'm delighted with the win," said the new Irish champion. Meanwhile, Dubliner Shane Roche denied Ulster a fourth win on-the-trot with a countback decision over Joel Scullion, who received a public warning for holding in the second. Scullion landed some fine rights in the third, but was clipped twice by Roche in the final three minutes of a cracking bantamweight decider. The all-Connacht 57kg battle of the Michelle's went to Michelle Lynch, the Golden Gloves ace recording a 13-2 verdict over Michael Chambers to add the Irish featherweight title to her CV. Sean McComb, a cousin of newly-crowned flyweight champion Gavin McComb, denied the Immaculate BC two-in-a-row with an impressive decision over JD Meli. The Holy Trinity BC prospect, a tall and rangy southpaw, opened up a 5-2 lead and stretched that advantage to 8-4 by the end of the third. Meli, to his credit, kept winging in shots in the final frame. However, McComb showed some excellent footwork to extract himself from a few "hairy" situations en route to winning his fourth Irish title. Meanwhile, Emma Agnew was celebrating a high-five after recording an inside the distance victory over Laura Connolly-Murphy to claim her fifth Irish crown. Mark O'Hara - with the Holy Trinity BC's second win of the night - finished on top of the men's 60kg podium at the expense of James Tennyson. O'Hara made the judges minds up for them with some fine right-hand shots throughout this bout to seal a 20-11 verdict. Martin Wall, meantime, was one point ahead at the end of each round and at the final bell of a high-tempo 67kg duel with Waterford's Ronan Date. Emmet Brennan made it two wins in-a-row for the Corinthians BC after Liam Green was retired by his corner in round three. Ciara Doyle was also impressive, the Gorey BC pugilist posted an 18-5 wins over Lisa Ward, while Conrad Cummings completed the treble for the Holy Trinity BC with a 20-9 victory over Chris Blaney. Blaney took a count after dropping to one knee from a body shot in round three. Cummings, who was beaten by Blaney in the 2010 U21 Championships, said he was absolutely thrilled with the win and to have completed the three in-a-row for his club. Gary Sweeney, a silver medal winner for Ireland at the 2011 European Youth Championships, was beaten by Ciaran O'Griofa in an explosive 85kg clash. Sweeney also received a public warning for a low blow in the first round of an all-Connemara duel. O'Griofa, who was 6-4 down at the end of the first, turned it around to lead 10-8 by the end of the second and was 13-10 up at the end of a top-class contest. Two-time Irish elite finalist Tommy McCarthy recorded a comprehensive 32-2 win over the brave challenge of Thomas Farrell at heavyweight. Drimnagh BC super-heavyweight Sean Turner claimed the final title on offer with a third round stoppage of Ken Okungbowa of the Athlone BC in a power-punching 91kg+ clash. This content is protected
