It looks like Duddy-Philips wont be happening anytime soon. http://www.irish-boxing.com/stories/september08/september08_duddy_phillips_in_doubt.html
I gotta say Patrick Hyland surprised me by stopping his opponent so quickly. I hear they are looking a European title fight for him now. But closer to home, who would win between Patrick and Belfasts Martin Lindsay?????????? Oh boy that would some dust-up, if they could get it on.:yep
Lindsay would probably outbox him pretty comfortably. Hyland may have an edge in power but Lindsay is much classier and better at everything else. Patrick currently isn't in the full European title rankings but is in the European Union rankings. I hope that's the belt they are going for as he could be exposed a bit at full European level. Frenchman Osman Aktas has the European Union belt and I'd fancy Patrick Hyland to get the better of him. Infact that would be the perfect next fight for him and a good step up in level too. Shame about that for Duddy. HBO's dates are booked out for the year and Showtime are probably passing on it. To be honest if they could Versus to agree to it and get RTÉ to put up a decent fee aswell(which I reckon they would for a World title fight) then it may be doable. But the purses would have to be relatively low and Phillips may not want to give up his title for a purse of $200,000 which is what I'd estimate could be generated for him.
PEREZ SET TO LEAD CORK'S HAVANA CLUB ON BIG NIGHT http://www.irishexaminer.com/irishexaminer/pages/story.aspx-qqqg=sport-qqqm=sport-qqqa=sport-qqqid=71865-qqqx=1.asp
its shaping up 2 a good nite on sat...if these cubans r as good as some people are saying...then cork could be in for a boxing revival...world class contests...big events...christ exciting times 4 the munster boys:good
Are any of them cubans linked to brian peters. Brian Peters apparently unearthed a boxer who used to work for him in his pub/restaraunt in dunshaughlin co. meath. Pretty sure yer man was cuban.
I don't think Dunne will take the fight in England, I hear Kiko Marinez will be fighting Munroe in a rematch in November.According to Cormac of Irish boxing .com Dunne will be headlining a show in Ireland soon.:hi:
Could be on the same card as lee's proposed fight at the end of october? or would they be too big now to fight on the same night. I read on boards that dunne-munroe could be in new point that would be able to hold a load of spectators.
I think martinez said that if he wins the belt dunne will get a re-match not sure where i read it though
I was saying that if he got the title back he could get more big fights here. I agree he NEEDS to go over to england and take HIS title back
Yeah, they could be on the same card[Lee and Dunne], but I think Peters is working on 4 seperate shows with Lee, Dunne, Duddy and McCloskey all headlining a show each. I dont think Munroes manager Frank Maloney will risk his boxers title by bringing him to Dublin to fight Dunne, but it would be good news if he did.
I'm dying to see Lee fight again i absoloutely love watching him fight, i was gutted when he was stopped in the 7th -v- Vera. Would love to see a re-match, lee wouldn't try and play the crowd this time i'd say he'd knock him spark out if he got the chance. He needs a good few fights against decent opposition before he even considers throwing his hat in the ring with pavlik though.
