McLoughlin to win 69 if hes not robbed like last year and Ward to win it handyer than last year if hes training which im sure he is .

You always here these rumours about boxers not putting the training in but when it boils down to it its usually a load of shite .

Christy is not doing them Luke you are right,as to quigley cant see it 75 to 81 is a huge jump and Darren beat him fairly easily so Kenny and/or Ward would hammer him.Sikora from Limerick tore up the script at 91 in the intermediates twice coming back in the last round could he give Mc Carthy a run for his money if Ward isnt there.

"Middleweight Jason Quigley from Donegal, Ireland led the way for the Matadors against Troy O’Meiley, Australia. In his Matadors debut, Quigley, 2-0 with 1 knockout, had to box his way out of clinches and full frontal assaults from his Russian opponent. While he acquitted himself well, Quigley’s smooth boxing skills never fully materialized in the brawl. Such was not the case against poor Troy O’Meiley.

“[Russian Dynamo fighter Vitali Bandarenka] was tough,” Quigley told Maxboxing.com after Sunday’s match. “He had been going to fight in world championships for like forever. He is a very experienced boxer. I am only coming onto the scene as a young twenty year old boxer. It was a tough fight against him. But tonight, I was able to show what I got more because this guy wasn’t here to spoil me. The Russian came and he knew I was a good boxer so he tried to rough me up and take away my game plan. This was more of a clean fight. I had the strength on this guy and it really paid off.”

If looking good in the next one was the theme of the night, Quigley picked it up quickly, moving in fast and balanced behind his hard jab. It didn’t take long to work in a hard right hand that Quigley threw at an angle tailor-made for O’Meiley.

“I looked him up on the internet before the fight and I saw one or two fights of his,” explained Quigley. “I saw some of the people he was boxing. He looked pretty good. He looked a wild kind of fighter like he could be a wee bit dangerous. Once I got the feel for him and got to find out that the right hand was working, my plan worked all night for me.”

That night was a short one for O’Meiley as Quigley caught him with a right hand. O’Meiley reeled backwards and Quigley looped in a right that struck like Irish lightning and down he went. It was a bit of a momentum shot but the accuracy and flash of power was impressive. In his previous fight, Quigley had used a nice step back counter right hand to score on his bull rushing foe. With O’Meiley backpedaling under the onslaught of jab/right hands, that particular trick was shelved.

“I knew I had the strength on him. The last guy I fought, the Russian, he was a strong guy. He kept coming forward and I had to use that step back right hand,” said Quigley. “But this fight I was in control the whole time. I was able to land shots when I wanted to and I backed him up nicely.”

By the 1:05 mark of the second, with O’Meiley’s back to the ropes and Quigley at a safe distance unloading the kitchen sink in intelligent and economical fashion, the Bangkok corner wisely threw in the towel

“I didn’t know they threw in the towel,” said Quigley. “I thought the ref stopped it until I turned around. It didn’t feel like the moment [to stop it] but he was taking a lot of heavy shots. I know myself I hurt him a couple of times. I suppose the corner was just looking out for him.”

Coming into the season, the Donegal fighter wondered if his power would translate into the pro ranks. The win is a glimpse into what he can become with time.

“Yeah, well, it came out tonight, didn’t it?” he smiled afterward. “I was delighted tonight with the stoppage because you don’t get that much in the amateur game, you know? I think with the first right hand I had him. I put him back a couple of steps. I knew he wasn’t physically as strong as me, either. So I didn’t go for the knockout right away; like I just planned to hurt him. When you plan for these opportunities the knockout will always come.”

"Crowd pleasing Sean “Big Sexy” Turner out of Drimnagh, Dublin, Ireland defended the Matadors at heavyweight against Anatolii Antoniuk, a 21 year old Ukraine rookie with an amateur record of 75-21. Turner is one of those people born to fight. He reminds me of the character who gets into the longest fight ever with John Wayne in John Ford’s Classic “The Quiet Man.” I was curious to see Turner live. On tape against the Milano Thunder, he was impressive in spots. But like a younger Chris Arreola, Turner simply appears to carry too much weight around the middle. His punches, particularly the left hook which won him this fight, are crisp, compact and brutal when delivered to the gut. But his head is immobile and will continue to be as long as Turner decides to carry that extra weight. He’s only 20 and bound to shed some of it naturally as he continues on. With his fats hands and well placed punches, he could develop into an action TV fighter. As it was, Turner gained the momentum and the crowd early on and though he slowed visibly, the judges credited him with keeping both. Turner took it 48-47 twice and a surprising 50-45 from judge Marty Denkin. A natural entertainer, Turner is still rough around the edges but with upside.

“He is great but not where I want him yet,” said Coach Robles who informed Turner had dropped an impressive 13 pounds in three weeks. “Nice body attack. I have only had the kid in the country for three weeks. He fought a great fight in Italy. I thought he won but that’s how it goes on the road. He is not where I want him to be but we hope to get him there little by little.”

Like Quigley, Turner will be returning to Ireland for the Nationals and then if successful, the Olympic Qualifiers. Their success there will decide if they return to the team should they make the playoffs."

Just to let people know that former Irish Junior champion and European schoolboy bronze medalist, John Paul McDonagh of St. Pauls Boxing Club, Waterford died yesterday. He was a really talented boxer in his teenage years but unfortunately he got caught up in the wrong stuff and had also been suffering from depression which ultimately got the better of him. R.I.P John Paul.
