**** thats bad news for paul...people thought that he was the best of the hylands...but well done 2 paddy....what about simon odonnell...i think he is london-irish...he was fighting on the same undercard....odonnell fought out of the same dale youth boxing club that produced james degale and george groves

Yea it's great to see coyle finally fight in ireland. I may go to it but the undercard look's slim and dunne's opponent hasn't been anounced. If dunne's opponent is credible and not another journeyman then i would go, also i would like if peter's put some of gary hyde's cuban's (acosta and garcia) or michael sweeney on the card.

 

People only thought he was the best of the Hylands because he was the one who kept talking shite about he was going to do this and that. He hasn't the dig to make it at Euro level. The 4 lads he managed to stop had a combined record of 4-17-0. Also he hadn't had his chin tested before last night, and lets be honest, the guy who stopped him was 7(1)-4-0.

I think the moral of the story here is that there is no point in thinking you have any calibre because you get to 12-0 fighting a few 'also rans' or, whatever they would be classed as, in Dublin or Dagenham etc.. If you are going to go the slow route then its probably best to start in the States where the basic standard of fighter is much tougher. Dunne's stint in the States has stood him in good stead. If he hadn't got that experience under his belt then he'd never have learned anything with the rate that he has boxed since coming home.

I always thought Paddy Hyland was the best of the bunch but, unfortunately, I don't think he'll get up to EBU level even. They are a very limited bunch and this is a big, big setback for them given the fact that Eddie lost his unbeaten record last year. Now i know its not all about the 0 but the two lads lost to **** poor opposition. Eddie lost by stoppage to a guy that had never won inside the distance before and Paul just got stopped by a feather fisted opponent with what can only be described as a 'mixed record'.

Their father, Pat Hyland, had been talking about lining Paulie up for a shot at the EBU title within the next year and Paulie himself had been talking about how he would knock Dunne out and do this and that to him. I think this is a big dose of reality for that camp. Two of the three lads clearly haven't got what it takes to step up a level and the public won't be placated with a load of poor domestic match ups forever either.

Hopefully Duddy and Dunne can get the ball rolling for Irish boxing again with a couple of good wins in November then McCloskey, Lee, Moore et al can get it going and bring boxing back to the fore and back to life again.

 

Bam bam- I agree with you but paul wasn't stopped just knocked down and lost on point's. I also agree on your point about america. I'm dissapointed for paul as i thought he could get to ebu level.

Sorry I hadn't the time to read the full report earlier. I just skimmed it and read he was down and taking big shots. My brain equated that as a stoppage! Anyway, the basic point is the same. Getting decked by someone that isn't a known puncher and getting knocked about a bit isn't too good! I know it sounds like he would have been stopped if it had gone on longer but I really have to ask what a guy who was meant to be lined up for a EBU shot within a year was doing fighting a 4 rounder anyway!

 

I heard Peters running a bill in Limerick soon, with Lee headlining. But there is no opponent mentioned ATM.

Before the gibb's fight steward said either howard eastman or randy griffin so it might be one of them.

 

Andy has boxed his last 3 out of 4 in Ireland and his lose in America was well documented.He could beat the world champ in Limerick but it will mean **** all to the major ratings he needs to do as he was doing originally base in the states and box here once maybe twice a year and work up the ratings for a chance at title shot.

 

I agree with that to a point. He can snag a shot at the IBF or something if he just goes and boxes once in the state against half decent opposition. He could take Abraham too IMO! However, if he wants to be considered a real top MW (which isn't exactly a hot division at the minute) then he is going to have to go back stateside more permanently.

 

Anyone can have a bad night bambam, so maybe, just maybe Paul can come back a better fighter after this set back.His opponent was on a winning streak before he beat the youngest Hyland, so he was not a total disgrace.A return in Ireland over 10rds would be a perfect way to answer his critics, and prove this was a fluke.
