Is anybody else worried about the lack of competition for our boxers as they lead up to the Olympics?
I know the team nearly always get it right but it's a long time since some of the lads fought competively. The top Europeans, ie Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Russia don't want their top fellows sparring our lads and maybe we should have tried to get into tournaments like the Giraldo Cordoba Cardin tournament in Cuba or the Liventsev Memorial in Minsk, Belarus.
Nevin is coming back from his jaw problem-the rest was probably a good thing for me until now-Barnes always needs competition and Conlon, dispite good sparring in Belfast and O'Neill are a long time out of competition.
Maybe a dual tournament with the top UK boxers would benefit both or if the don't want to meet the number ones, say we box their number two's and they box ours?

 

Any news on the Lee fight. If anyone is going to be showing the World title. Would be nice to see Lee fighting for the World title hopefully someone comes in and gets the fight on the tv for the people who cant make the fight.
I wonder if Setanta will come in and get the fight at the last minute like they did for 1 of the Brian Magee fights. Or even if the worst thing that there is no live fight RTE show highlights the next day of the fight. I do wonder how much money it would cost as a 1 off for RTE to buy the rights of the fight as a 1 off and just use the American feed for the fight.

 

This is the biggest fight involving an Irishman in years. It has potential to be a cracking fight. In my opinion, RTE are obliged to show this fight. This is the kind of stuff people pay their TV licence for. There's not a chance of it happening though. Have Boxnation or Sky picked it up? It would be interest to do so.

 

None of them have it down to be on. With a few days to go to the fight it isnt looking too good. I know Lee has boxed on some of the Sky American shows in the past live but its not good. Thats why with Setanta I think it might well be our only hope of seeing the fight live. I dont know if the Cantona bloke still comes on here as he used to be able to give us heads up on any fights they get.

 

boxnation had Chavez last 2 fights, surely theyd pick this one up as well. presume the undercard is shite since its a one fight telecast in the states?

 

tv licence inspector came around today I should have told him id only pay if RTE got the Lee fight :deal

 

I said the same thing, but added that I must get the chance to violate Ryle Nugent as well, whilst his rugger-bugger fanboy Stapo watched and filmed it.

Slap I can't stand that there isnt more exposure to the sport we love.
But, try not to create political divide based on sport at the same time. If we can get more and more "Rugger Buggers" to watch boxing - the way not to do it is slag them off. I think that there is a lot of Rugby lads who love boxing as there are GAA and footy lads too. Remember the rugby lads all got behind Bernard Dunne and it did no harm to see the likes of Brian O'Driscoll and Dennis Hickey at all those fights in the satdium. Not to mention the amount of good PR Paul O'Connell and Alan Quinlan are doing for Andy Lee and Matthew Macklin. Ok so one or 2 peopel in Rugby world you dont like put try not to paint them with the same brush. I am sure I could think of 1 or 2 football lads you might no like either. We are lacking tv exposrue for sure. What I am saying, is that the us v them mentality wont work. Just my opinion - take it or leave it.

 

Yeah because 'sssh don't make a fuss, just sit here being ignored and wait to be asked to dance' approach is really getting us anywhere mate.

Good cop, bad cop. I'd rather let him know we know he is a **** and it isn't going unnoticed whilst others cosey up and ensure that a case for boxing is being pushed.

not sure you got what I meant. Didn't say we shouldnt do anything. I dont know but you seem to have good connections in boxing. Could you put them to good use. could you raise awarness that way? E.g. maybe get an interview with Katie and get her to drop hints in her speech when she medasl (about hoping it will lead to more tv exposure) - that kind of thing. Surely that would work. RTE for the wrong or the right reasons are starting to show interest in her. Maybe you could interview Alan Quinlan since he seems to be on twitter shouting for MAcklin and Lee a lot.
I dont know. maybe its a bad idea.

 

I enjoy having a go a Nugent that's why. I think he's a smug D4 **** and if he turned RTE into BoxNation I'd still be bawlin at the ****er.
