If he fades like that again he won't be winning his next bout. Still thankfully he got the right result and progresses to the round of 16, improvement is needed though.
From what I've seen of Adam Nolan he always does just about what's necessary. He doesn't seem to ever win extremely convincingly. It seems to be just his style, that he's glad to stay in front and play it safe. I think he will definitely up his game against better opponents. Feck sake lads, twas his first ever performance in the Olympics, or any major tournament for that matter. I think him "fading" didn't really matter - he done the necessary for this specific fight!
He deserved to win, but imo he clearly lost that last round and the scoring overall should have been a fair bit tighter. Dunne has quite a loose guard, but he had terrific head movement to compensate for this, he wasn't an easy man to tag clean. Clearly his time in LA had a big impact on his style being of that nature aswell. I think the reason we're being so harsh on Nolan is knowing how good the Russian he faces in the next round is. If he were to be facing the South African who won the bout after him I doubt the criticism would be nearly as harsh.
Nolan makes it 3 out of 3 for Ireland http://www.irish-boxing.com/2012/07/nolan-makes-it-three-out-of-three-for-ireland/
Fair point. I suppose everyone would have been much happier if he hammered the guy, scored a couple knockdowns and won by 15/20 points, but as I say I just don't think he ever does it. In the seniors he could beat say willie mclaughlin by 4 points and then beat an average guy by 6 points (who mclaughlin would stop in the second round). Hopefully he ups his game for the Russian - and going by past examples I think he will. Whether or not it's enough to win is another story
