Sad finish to the boxing with Nevin boxing way below power.John Joe is thinking about turning pro.
If any of the boxers turn pro and this includes Katie Taylor, I would like to think RTE could keep them on Irish TV. We want to see these boxers remain in Ireland boxing in front of Irish crowds and promoting boxing in this country. The huge TV viewing figures are guaranteed, as is the corporate sponsorships and crowds will flock to stadiums all over the country to watch them, so there are no excuses from RTE why they can't get behind them and Irish boxing again. It takes an ambitous Irish promoter [step in Peters or Hyde] to put a package togather so this can happen, but this is very doable, it just takes the right people to agree to do business togather and RTE be prepared to make a substantial investment in the sport. These four medalist could box togather on bills and fill out large venues all around Ireland, Belfast,Dublin, Cork,Limerick or anywhere else. The hard work has been done and the medals have been won, it's only a matter of boxing and the boxers [of course] to cash in on it.:deal

Agreed, Peters seems interested. But would be great to see them on the same bills. That's why, when I read the Eddie Hearn article I got excited.
He mentioned putting katie on bills with Frampton/Macklin Lee and cheekily mentioned Croke Park. I guess the popularity of these fighters means if they all turned pro together than indeed the could be put on the same Bills. Like ****** did with the 2008 Olympians for GB.

Just back after the best 10 days of sport in my life, but was amazed by a few things at Katies boxing matches.
After semi final Nicola Adams was very went around all the Irish Fans taking pictures and looking for support from the Irish for the final(cute move on her behalf)as the Excel was 3/4 full of Irish and the final was the same.
And sure enough the Irish went and shouted for Adams(as did the Brits for Katie)then came god save der gueen and i was very surprised and shocked to see nearly all the Irish standing to attention and singing it,are we changing that much as a nation, not trying to stir **** but was amazed at it.
Back to Katie, when she done a lap around the ring with the Tricolour my youngfella was shedding a tear,a great moment for Irish sport and the best athmosphere ive been to,delighted to have been part of it.

All in all, it was a very good tournament, 4th in the medal table, 4 of 6 boxers won medals. Pity Nevin couldn't get the win and pity Ward wasn't there: he has already beat the gold and silver winners. Katie Taylor, Barnes heart pushing Shimming to countback and Nevin's win against the Cuban were the highlights for me.

Brian Peters, get the finger out. And the only ones i reckon to go pro will be Katie (although I'd rather she retired) and John Joe. Conlon wont go pro yet
and I doubt Nolan or O'Neill will go pro. But if Katie and JJ sign up with Peters or Hyde and fight out of Ireland, we'll be back to the days of Bernard Dunne.

It's not Brian Peters that needs to get his finger out-it's Ryle Nugent.

Pity O Herily wasnt calling the shots as then boxing would get much more exposure while hockey & rowing could take a back seat.

Might be a stupid question as i dont know the technical details but why do Conlon And Barnes who are from N.Ireland fight and represent R.O.Ireland While Rory Mcilroy competes and represents England ??

McIlroy represents NI i think. Generally catholics dont want to represent britain due to old political reasons. So they can represent the republic. That said i heard mcilroy was a catholic but represents NI maybe its not as easy to change in the golf

An Irish boy I know calls McIlroy a "castle catholic", apparently it's a middle class Catholic who is happy with a Northern Irish identity.
