Agree with you regards HNN fight with Quillin close bar the knockdowns. But if you where in Andys position be hard to turn down a potential 500 grand payday against GGG, they dont come around very often. Would much prefer to see him in against Sturm or Martinez but dont think those fights can be made??? then runs risk of losing against a top ten guy and never seeing that kind of payday ever again!! I say take it while its being offered, can rebuild after a knockout to GGG be ten times harder to come back after loss to a no namer in next fight.

Of course you are right - if I was in Andys position it would be impossible to resist. Not trying to be preachy - just want to make it clear that I am not knocking Andy in the slightest, in fact I feel this way precisely cos I DO like him! A lot! Great guy.
If he does get the Golovkin fight I just hope he gets very well paid and comes out of it unhurt.

As for PQ v HNN - what a weird one that was eh?
In years to come there will be a pub quiz question:
"In which title fight did the loser win 9 of the 12 rounds but still lose on points?"
Hell HNN was even winning the rounds he was knocked down in (until he got nailed)!! :thumbsup

I think people are underestimating Andy,he only lost 2 fights, one was a robbery that he rectified and the other he was ahead after 7 rounds when he was stopped by an oversized man who was complaining of cramps in his legs:twisted:,these fights don't come around too often and I for one will be heading over if it comes about with a certain belief that a surprise could happen.

I did head over for the Macklin-Martinez fight and its not a cheap night out dutchie. Also in that fight our boy had a realistic chance. So unless you are very flush at the minute (and good luck to you if you are bud) I would suggest you could do something else with the money. There would only be one outcome to this.

Got to agree. Lee will do better than Macklin did. He looks much improved since the move with Adam Booth. I think he has pyhysically developed under the science of Booths methods. Booth has been getting into his head also but GGG is a redicolous step up all the same. I think in fairness though if Lee loses to GGG he is actually more likely to land a fight with Sutrm/Quillin etc so its win win situation. His stock is hardly going to fall that much. HBO didn't stop airing macklin so looks like Lee will be goo for more fights after this. Chavez Jr that stopped that Lee apart from having a cruiserweight to face, also had the small ring. Di Bella needs to make sure its a big ring so Lee can box on the outside if we chooses to.

Why do you rate Lee ahead of Macklin? Surely all the evidence points the other way?

Also part of Andys problem is precisely that he fails to make use of his physical advantages (height and reach)- even when the ring is huge and he could have done so. So it probably wont matter either way about the ring. GGG is a master at closing guys down even in big rings - look at his last fight. Its just clutching at straws talking about things like ring size.
This is not a good fight for Andy.

The Lee v Macklin debate is more a matter of opinion. I think there equal in power and chin departments but I feel Lee is more skillful and has developed more. Their best wins are at a similar level in terms of opposition. Macklin lost to Moore while Lee lost to Vera at similar stages of their careers. I think the cruiserweight cone middleweight that was chavez on that night would have stopped mack too. Also yhink sturm would have outpointed andy because manny ignore Lee's weak points. But lee looks more developed and has more pedigree to improve on in my opinion. We will never know till they get it on.

Its a bit more than a matter of opinion.
Tell you what - lets list and compare their 3 best wins each.
    Ill go first with Macklin:

Won British title with devastating ko.
Won European title by devastating ko
"Won" world title in thriller against a great champion, and got robbed.

Now its your turn for Andy!

That's 1 way of looking at it. But Bryan Vera is a decent win as is willie Gibbs and Craig mcewan (the latter both by ko too). It's not the way I see it, but is comparing opponents not a matter of opinion also no?

Well Paddy you certainly dont give up, do you?

FWIW I rate some of Macks LOSSES as being better than Andys best. I mean the fight-of-the-year war with Moore and the great show he put up against a peak Sergio. Sorry I cant agree with you on this one buddy. I reckon that Macklin has at least 5 performances that are better than anything we've seen (or are likely to see) from Andy.

I have to call it as I see it. Andy is a great guy, granite chin, decent power and heart like a lion - I just dont think he's a really top class boxer. He has a few too many shortcomings for my liking. I wish he was though. I really do. :thumbsup

As Paddy says its great that at least some of us can use a discussion forum like this to actually DISCUSS boxing stuff without personal abuse.

As regards the merits of Lee and Macklin - I dont know what I'm going to do with ye lads!

Naturally ye are all wrong (after all everyone who disagrees with me is!!).

Maybe it can be settled in the ring between them soon? :good

Always favoured Macklin myself , I think Lee's defence when he's on backfoot would be his downfall against Macklin. Saying that think its closer than would have been year or two ago! Big fan of both lads but think Macklins aggression and better inside game be difference between two lads. Hopefully fight can be made this year there is very few fights that I'd rather go and see 👍
