. The fight was undoubtedly close but Ward looked sloppy as hell though, wild and his fitness is a bit of a question. Sometimes he can look top class and sometimes he looks off his game. He's very young though and will undoubtedly get better but I cant help but think that a lad of his talent should be looking better than he has been.
He needs to knuckle down on his conditioning. Ivanov looked like a hardened pro athlete. Ward looked like a part time boxer whose no stranger to a pack of crisps. He looks quite wild and sloppy at times too. Lots of time to get things right. Still only 20.
You'd think Billy Walsh and Zaur Antia would be on top of it, they run a fairly tight ship in the high performance unit, especially now that Ward's fighting in 6 rounders against world class opposition, he's basically a pro like. Ive seen glimpses where he looks every bit the fighter we hope he'll turn out to be, but id like to see him tighten his offence up. He looked lazy in there against Ivanov, winding up and telegraphing that left hand. In saying that he rebounded with two wins in the APB, where there are no easy fights from what ive see, so he must be doing something right.
i taught that fight with Ivanov was near 50-50 and Ivanov should have been deducted a point for the low blow in saying that it feels like ward isn't even trying in there half the time
I know, I think a draw would have been fair enough, or even a close Ward win, as im a bit biased but I think he landed with more shots overall. I think its partly his conditioning, but if he isn't trying there's something wrong, there's an Olympic spot up for grabs, this is no mickey mouse competition.
i taught ward edged it and i gave most of the close rounds to ivanov, the clearest rounds were ward rounds you should read the apb report on the fight its hilarious they said ivanov was constantly hurting ward and he was in danger of being stopped 'Since the very start one could see that the Russian boxer was there for business as he puts his body into the shots. He rocked the Irish boxer with every punch, but did expose himself to a few good hits from Ward.' lmfao i didn't see ward hurt at all i think he has already beaten ivanov when he was 17 and 19 so he underestimated him and taught he was going to hammer him his probebly got bare knuckle to be focusing on too:good
Would not be one bit surprised if he didn't train that much in Dublin with the high performance team. He does a lot of his work at his home club in Moate I've heard. He is supremely naturally talented but it takes more than natural talent at this level. Talk of him being tailor made for the pros always baffled me, his style is very amateur based, his Shot selection is quite limited (he loves throwing that left hand hay maker and ducks down straight after it, I'm amazed opponents are not wise to it). A lot of his punches are thrown with the inside of his gloves aswell, technique needs improving. He is relying on quick reflexes to get out of trouble, but I definitely think his offence needs to be polished.
wonder what his training consists of in Moate, id say dipping his hands in petrol and growing a mustache . incredibly talented ,doesn't seem to have ever had to work for it and now that he does im not sure he knows how
Oh yeah, I mean his talent is unquestionable. Its becauise hes so talented, I just want to see what he can REALLY do!:good
This content is protected THATS a joke. (I have plenty more too if anyone is interested) What youre doing is just rude. :blood
Some days he boxes real lazy and sloppy and then other days he is out of this world, like when he boxed Megonshev, his shot selection was superb and technique was great but then other days he looks like he couldnt be ****d. Bit like Andy Lee, I think he really needs to be up against it for his best to come out.
This lad is WBO number 4, http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=544351&cat=boxer If,as expected BJS takes step aside money to let Andy defend in Ireland St Paddys week this is the first lad that should be phoned, I personally would have no problem with Andy picking a soft one like this i think he has done enough to deserve it and i think it would still fill the 3 arena with a Irish based undercard,
Also the time he smashed up Kenny Egan in the 2012 all Irelands, he walked through him like he was nothing, great performance
exactly, i think he really underestimated Ivanov even though i still taught he won the fight he must have been like 'i beat him when i was 17, i'll destroy him now'
Amazing, boxrec has him ranked as the 4th best MW in HUNGARY, yet hes #4 in the WBO rankings.... No wonder people dont take sanctioning bodies seriously anymore
