I know its laughable, but that was enough against the truly awful Korobov.

(Although it almost wasnt. Without the 'hail mary' shot landing Andy was goosed. 2 of the judges gave Korobov all 5 completed rounds.)

Andys just not able to fight at a pace needed to beat good opponents like BJS, Blackwell etc

Very good two pager in the Irish News today about the Irish Finals this weekend. I have got to agree with Barnes, Conlan, Donnelly - they are right to prioritise the WSB - it is opportunity to qualify for the Olympics. Plus, they will see the world - travel to south america, US etc and can get paid (although barnes and Conlan will not be paid as they have a guarantee that they will box in all fights - boosting their Olympic qualification chances).

IABA should change the dates of the Finals, as this will clash every year. Are the finals televised on TG4 again?

Just seen this. Good to see TG4 continue with this and unsurprising that RTE continue to ignore Irish boxing.

Donnelly is entered at this stage, must say I missed Johnny Joyce, a great prospect, and Tinker might be a great wildcard"

It amazing the way everytime Lee stops someone, its a "hail Mary" shot, according to you!

When Blackwell stops fighting in town halls and gets near a world title, then we can talk.

I must say I admire a man with the courage of his convictions Dutchie! Fair dues mate - you are (I think) the only one on here who put his money where his mouth is, and actually went out there to support Andy. :thumbsup (I did the same for Macklin versus Sergio...of course that was a totally different scenario, we wont even go there!!).

I DO give Andy his due - I said the scoring was a dsgrace - at most Andy was a round down at the finish. Congratulations to Andy. Just as long as he doesnt get too attached to the title - BJS is coming.....but for now lets let Andy enjoy his hard-earned glory....:thumbsup

    Elite final winners:

Irvine (should be a tremendous s**** with Myers)
McKay (anyone hear why Phelan is out, Army business?)
Walker (helped by Conlan pulling out)
Cully (after an ugly all-southpaw final with fellow gangly man McComb)
Moylette (tough call, probably the best fighter in there although Nevin, Walsh, Hickey all have a major say, possibly Mongan too)
Nolan (unlucky to lose last year)
O'Reilly (hoping for a walloping final with Hynes)
Sheahan (at least I hope so!)
Sweeney (v O'Neill in the decider would be excellent)
Sheehan (will continue to win this category as long as he laces 'em up)

Actually Blackwell may be nearer a world title shot than you realise. Seems he was paid "step-aside" money to facilitate BJS v CEJ.
So if Andy does get past BJS...his next mando prob is going to be Nick.
Either that or BJS will inherit Nick as his first mando...that's if he can avoid a Hail Mary from Andy!!!

Blackwell was mandatory for the British title. If Saunders gives that up, then Im sure Blackwell will fight for the vacant slot

No sanctioning body on the planet would make him a mandatory for a world title!
