i thought the fight was on UTV Ireland.... was the docu on his life shown on friday night shown on UTV Ireland.... pretty sure it was :good
*Not including Frampton and Lee* - I'd say Jono Carroll - great style, prizefighter win has created a solid base for him, infectious personality and going to be on TV a lot soon.
Collins finished up a big star over here, true. But for most of his career he was not a star here at all. He really had a two-tier career. Prior to returning from America he really didnt catch on with the masses here at all. Iremember going to see him fight in the National Stadium, in I guess the very early 90s??90/91? and most of the people there , and fans in general at the time, didnt really rate him too highly at all. Certainly I personally never thought he would become a world champion. Pretty much all through his 20s he was never a star. It was the fights against domestic rivals eg. Benn and Eubank that 'made' him. Wheres Wayne had success much earlier in his career, and going to Japan to win the world title there was a huge achievement. Lets face it you cant get much further from home than Japan!
Undercard on ITV4 not shown in the free state as it was being shown on UTV after the Frampton fight, id say about 10 people stayed up to watch it, I watched it online but its stupid that it was blocked as his fighters could have got good exposure on ITV down here at that time.
The average Joe in the Irish street or farm wont even know who McCullough is, maybe 10%? 90% will know Collins, it's not even close(Ray?) Better careers? longevity in public eye? achievements? different debate.
I expressed myself badly there...never meant to imply that Wayne a bigger star than Steve. (Steve has the "Dublin is Ireland" factor in his favour too remember! Poor Wayne comes from another state!!) I was just trying to give young fellas like Fra a view from the perspective of someone who was around during that time. COLLINS career was peculiar ...he was largely unheralded over here for most of what should have been his prime. Only became popular with the masses as a result of his fights against "domestic"opposition.
It's time to accept the bitter truth, Moorser. Our rotten little banana republic just doesn't count. Never did, never will. Not even to a guy who comes from it (Barry)!
Carl Frampton is a television knock-out Carl Framptons IBF World Bantamweight challenge fight proved a knock out with viewers claiming the top spot as most watched programme in Northern Ireland at the weekend. The fight attracted a peak audience of 457,000 viewers and share of 76%. With an average audience of 303,000 and a share of 58% it meant two thirds of viewers in Northern Ireland were tuned in to UTV to watch the local boxer beat opponent Chris Avalos in a fight that lasted just 5 rounds at the Odyssey in Belfast. Michael Wilson, Managing Director at UTV, said: "At a 76% peak audience share the Frampton fight was not only the most watched programme at the weekend but the highest audience share for UTV so far in 2015. The fight was the first time boxing has been brought to viewers on terrestrial television in many years, and judging by the ratings we can see there is a real hunger amongst our viewers for access to this calibre of sport. "We are always looking for opportunities to offer viewers what other stations arent and 2015 has been a great year for sport so far on UTV. Weve secured the ICC Cricket World Cup highlights and now brought viewers this outstanding fight from the world of boxing. "Carl Frampton was fighting on home soil to defend a title that not only means so much to him but to every person here in Northern Ireland who has lent their support to the native boxer, as he has climbed the ladder of success. UTV was privileged to be in a position to be part of bringing that to the heart of viewers homes." Barry McGuigan announced on air after the fight that he hoped ITV would continue to cover The Jackal's fights. Frampton's next fight looks set to be against unbeaten rival Scott Quigg, a fight that is already shaping up to be a blockbuster, multi-million pound showdown, in June. so over 450,000 tuned in to watch frampton fight on UTV in the 6 counties.... huge viewing figures for a minority sport... fcuk knows what sort of viewing figures the fight got over in britainhappy:good
