Another Oz-based Irishman, like Hogan. I've been scouring for video of Doheny vs. Demecillo, nothing yet.
Why?...curb your enthusiasm....its far too early to be calling Ken Casey a great boxing manager! Come on - he's a musician ffs, and has had Spike for, what? - 2 fights...against nobodies - yet Irish lads should be heading across the Atlantic in droves to sign with him? No logic to that whatsoever BJ.
Never said they should be heading over in droves did I nor did I say that he was a great boxing manager? But id definitely like to see Irish fighters get in some fights over there with them on a regular basis. Quite a few Irish fighters have fought on his cards and it could be a good idea to open up a bit of the American market while getting our lads some increased activity, which you keep crying about:good Nothing says we can't have lad fighting on both sides of the atlantic. Casey also said in a recent interview that he's been in contact with some of our lads already and that we should expect more Irish fighters to join his stable at some point, so I wouldn't be surprised to see just that happen.
In general, Irish lads would be best served being in the US. They have an inbuilt support base and access to better fights/training.
I actually looked that up that fight and yeah, apparently Doheny beat Frampton 7-4 in the Irish championships sem-final, I even found a brief fight report of the fight http://www.independent.ie/sport/sportslines-26407550.html Although this was way back in 06 and both were still teenagers, so make of that what you will. Still Doheny is a pretty interesting prospect and ill keep an eye on him. He's back out again in early July in another 12 rounder, defending that PABA trinket that he's had for a few years now.
Some might, but you cant generalise. For example I disagree with you that Nevin would be better off there. It depends on the individual. US isnt for everyone.
Yeah Casey and Murphy's Boxing is a solid promotional company. Have links with Golden Boy too, hence Quigley being on one of their shows and O'Connor getting a shot at Malignaggi (although this has been cancelled as Paulie was cut in training)
See Pody McCrory and Conor Doherty turning pro on that Malta show aswel, 2 decent amamterus aswel, nearly made the Commonwealth team, Doherty has a pro style bit similar to Cummings !
