Collins was full of beans the fight before Calzaghe when he fought that midget fireman. But when he;s faced with a bigger, stronger, faster more skilled young lion he suddenly faints in training and lets Eubank take his beating for him :yep

It was smart by Collins, I do admit. :deal

Utter tripe, and you know it. Rugby is absolutely massive in Ireland. Packed out stadiums every single week. It's the only professional game in town. Much bigger in Ireland thesdays (and for the last 15 years) than it is in Wales.

Ireland has more rugby players than Wales does. That's a fact. And rugby is in far better health over there.

Irish players just don't have the skills Welsjh players do.

When Eubank was walking down the tunnel after he got manhandled by Calzaghe do you know what he was saying?

It was all on camera loud and clear. He said: "Now we know why Steve Collins didn't want to fight him!"

And that's the point. Collins knew he'd lose. Everyone did. Calzaghe was fully expected to beat Collins. Just as Calzaghe was expected to beat Eubank.

To try and dress the situation up as "Calzaghe was unknown and green and no-one was scared of him" is utter BS.

Calzaghe was a very intimidating fighter back then.

You weren't watching boxing back then if you can't remember.

Oh you mean when Calzaghe fought twice beaten by Collins, shop worn, semi retired Eubank?
    What a victory

In what way was Calzaghe an intimidating fighter back then?

You think Collins was intimidated by how he KO'd Tyler Hughes?
How he mercilessly took out Carlos Christie?
His dominating beatdown of the relentless Nick Manners.

His break out win against future HOF'er Guy Stanford?

And who can forget the way he disposed of Pat Lawlor?!

    Give me a ****in' break.

Calslappy was a complete nobody at the time.

I can't believe it hasn't leaked out who the opponent is I'm completely clueless on this one all the half decent opponents in the Top 10 have fights lined up when you check their boxrec that's making me think it might be a big name, long shot maybe Mares at a catch weight 124 he's says he'll be out in July. I can't see Frampton fighting a complete nobody in his US debut he's want to make a statement against a well known guy over there.

I read somewhere that the young kid Pagara from the Philippines could be a possibility. He is ranked 7 by the IBF. It would be some statement if they ever got Donaire!:bbb

Donaire's fighting Ruiz July 18th in Macao.

I just heard a rumour it's apparently Rey Vargas an unbeaten Mexican kid ranked highly in all the orgs and it's at Madison Square Garden.

He looks like an absolute buzzsaw mate, he win many Irish titles do you know? If he's only 18 he could end up at 75kg in the near future, where there is already some really good talent.

It also says he fights out of Holy trinity. Damn, the talent thats come out of that gym in the last decade or so is just crazy.

He was with Cairn Lodge not too long ago, yeah he has plenty of Irish titles hasnt won a medal in Euros or Worlds yet but cant be far off if he boxing like that, he fights in the u18s this week I think, probably between him and Michael Nevin who is a world class prospect himself , 2 time Euopean Junior Champ, that will be some fight if they meet.

Either you are a wind up or you weren't interested in history. This is an incredible insult so please find out the underlying reasons or don't comment on something this sensitive. The Prince of Wales (on very good terms) is in Ireland on a week long trip. Irish people go to wales regularly and vice versa. We have a friendly neighbourly rivalry which is great but there are times when banter goes too far and making a statement like that above is an example.
