we're talking about two different things here....him being 'fat'...and how he performed.
if you walked into a gym and you seen him beside you stripped from the waist up...would you really think he was just fat ?

Are you seriously asking that as a question?
If so the answer ...phew....is obviously a resounding

So - whats the verdict on Spikes performance.

Plusses: I was impressed. The opponent had a pulse and fired back enthusiastically. Spike showed a powerful jab that unusually he used as an attacking weapon. Nice high tight guard. Unfazed by anything coming back. And of course he confirmed for us that he hits hard - as usual.

Minuses: Spikes still tooo slooow for top guys IMO. He marches forward at one pace, no head movement, very very predictable, didnt work the body ( that said people say much the same about GGG, apart from the lack of bodywork but anyway..!!..). Loaded up too much at times - but what puncher doesnt....Needs to throw with the opponent rather than wait for him to finish and 'now its my turn'....
......and lets not forget his sartorial inelegance - Steve Collins old kilt!! :)

Lens Verdict - impressive, exciting, fan-friendly slugger! You get what you pay for with Der Spikester.

Love watching Spike hes a mad man, real throw back he is, he has serious power and going on last night he has a good chin as that lad had power and didnt bother Spike once, really think Spike can beat Eubank Jr would love to see it .Think Spike was swinging widly last night looking for the KO to impress the fans he isnt that wild normally.

O'Connor was impressive some wicked body shots, hopefully he kicks on now .

^ Yeah...I just dont get the mystifying lack of a huge out-pouring of support for Spike. On the face of it he ticks all the boxes. It seems people would rather watch Andy Lee throw 20-30 flaps a round...and admittedly the occasional bomb too. Now Andys a nice guy and all ---> but I know who I prefer to watch. Oh well.....

congrats to james degale for winning the ibf title... degale wears the letters D.S. on his shorts in memory of Darren Sutherland his great amateur rival... always thought this was a great gesture of respect from him

on a funnier note spike is calling out GGG..... the guy has big plums i give him that:lol::good

Andy has said the same thing. Its something they might as well do.
Its a no-lose fight for someone like Spike.

de Gale wasnt so complimentary towards Darren when he was alive...but he does seem to have lost that 'attitude' that turned me off him initially. Darrens death was such a trajedy.....

Spike reminds me of curtis Stevens. Think he gives a good account of himself but walks onto a straight left or right hook

Yes that's correct. He was probably pre-empting a fight down the line, so just kept the rivalry intact with his mouth.
With the surfacing of this info about the 'D.S.' on his shorts, he has won many fans in Ireland. Such a thoughtful gesture.
My respect for the man has gone through the roof and I will be supporting him, without doubt, for the remainder of his career

Darren had beaten him numerous times as an amateur, deGale probably had an inkling that Darren was not himself in the Olympics - they knew each other well enough, and IMO Darren would have beaten him in the Olympics/pros too if not for his (apparently untreated ) bi-polar syndrome.
Good to see DeGales new improved attitude these days alright. Congrats to him. :thumbsup
