Luis Garcia will be fighting at the City West at the end of the month on Phil Sutcliffe/Don O'Leary's show. I will be doing an interview with Don this week and I have to say it looks like a tasty, tasty card. Myself and Paddy had the craic in Cork - it would be great if a few of us headed to City West - ESB on tour. Anyone interested? There will be around eight or so fights, with two of the Hylands, Steven Ormond, John Waldron, Anthony Fitzgerald among others in action. It could be a super show. The Cubans will be kept busy - there will be a show in Newcastle fairly soon, I believe. I'll be talking to Gary Hyde later and find out more. There was around 30 tables sold in the end - that's fair going at a grand a pop at seven day's notice.
Yeah Power is fun alright as you said will never be a major champ but wont be in a dull fight either.Good to have on the scene. Where is Gary Hyde going to get guys to push these Cubans those two guys should have asked questions but were both blown away again.
hey podge...is mccory promoting the show in newcastle...i dont claim to know as much as the rest of you boys, but if the cubans are kept busy and get the right training and sparring, they could become superstars...
In a rather sneaky approach I have put some of Padraigs report on the new irish-boxing.com forum. So log on sign up and have a read. I will have the full version up later today.
Hitman, It'll be Gary Hyde promoting, with some of Glenn's lads getting in on the card. The it will be back to Cork, and the pattern may stay like that. Every few weeks there'll be a card, fingers crossed. That's what my understanding is, but I could be wrong. I'd agree with you, the two opponents last night should have asked more. But the two lads were magnificent in their brief time in the ring. Perez' handspeed and accuracy were a thing of beauty, while Garcia has everything in the book - handspeed, balance, range, footwork - he could be the best of the lot. Young Acosta is also a fine prospect - he needs a bit of polish, but he listened intently to McCrory in the corner and did what he was instructed to do. By all accounts, he's a pleasure to teach - works very hard in training with no complaints or attitude. I'm still raving about Jamie Power - he'd bring a morgue to life, he's so exciting.
I like the look of Power, no world beater like you say but always seems to be in a good scrap. Was there much talk of the Billy Walsh and Stevie Houghian fight down there last night Podge. Sounds like a good scrap as well for the Irish title next month. Walsh is never in a bad fight.
have to agree with you 100% I was really impressed with Garcia the sparring he had with froch before Jean Pascal definately showed.
is Garcia et al now based in Newcastle? http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_6783/is_2008_Dec_23/ai_n31143977
I have to laugh at that article. It seems the Cubans are all things to all men Paddy's in Ireland and Geordie's in Newcastle
no they still live in cork but they train out of mccrory's gym and i have to say i am glad glenn joined there team, he has the experiance of being around big fight's and he would know what they are feeling into the leadup of fight's and can help them with nerve's etc. Also nyc is calling out for fighter's like Power his fight on the lee bill could be his chance to get a promotional deal from the like's of irish ropes, there is a lot of money to be made for exicting irish fighter's in new york.
Didn't Irish Ropes drop Moore?, i doubt they will pick up Power, exciting or not he can't be too good if he struggled with an opponent who has a 4 - 22 record
