We dont really know how much notice Power was given for this fight. I think he was called up short notice by Hyde after the Joyce promotion fell through, so he might have not been in the best of condition. Then again I could be talking through my arse here:lol:. **** it wont be the first time.:D

I made a balls of Perez' weight in my report, he was 16 stone even, not 15 stone 9 pounds. My weight converter from kilos to stone confused me a bit. Apologies. Also a few grammatical errors in my report - the result of a lash of pints last night and typing it up at ten this morning. Again, apologies.

Show in Newcastle on Feb 28, followed by another Irish show a few weeks later. Hopefully a few Irish lads will get a chance as well as the Cubans.

Jamie Power took the fight as three or four days notice, so he'd have battered his opponent with a bit more prep, to be fair.

Great link, fightinirish, thanks for that.

Sure provides a perspective into the murkier side of pro boxing. I think we all thought John was gone a bit off the track, with the smears against his character lately, but this story sounds like he was done out of a few quid. Hauser sure has done some research - is there anyone better for investigative journalism in boxing?

    Fra,
Tommy Egan is negotiating with networks this week. I'd love to see one of them pick it up - I'd think they'd be mad not because it will be inexpensive, by all accounts - but in my opinion it would be a bit special if TG4 took it because of the Sean Mannion-West of Ireland-Gaeltacht link.

Podge, thanks for your insides. Do you know if in some months (or years) there's any plan of bringing the Cubans to America?

I know they're helping to promote boxing in Ireland and they been appreciated there. But fact is that it would be better for their career to fight in America, since there is 2M of Cubans in Florida only. And let's not hide the fact that there is better competition for them in America (except maybe for Perez). This would also be a great opportunity for Hyde to grow as a promoter.

Just take Arena as an example. Who were they 2 years ago? Thanks to Gamboa alone they crossed to America and now they are hosting big shows for HBO, ESPN and Showtime. And now that Lara impressed last week (with only 3 fights), there are 2 Arena Cubans that every tv station will fight for.

Perez and Garcia are also extremely impressives (Acosta is young and has great potential). Hyde could use them as an opportunity to go mainstream. Their talent is undeniable and their age is just perfect. IMO it would be great for everyone, and the fans. There's a lot of Cuban boxing fans trying to follow their career but they can't even find a fight online. So do you think that they'll fight in America one day or they planning to keep them for the Irish/European crowd?

Yeah thats true Iceman he is in exciting fights because of his limited talent and thats what makes him fun to watch.
That said Jamie and his team seem like a nice bunch of guys i met them in the neptune stadium and there were none of them building him up on the contary they told me are enjoying the ride whilst they can and thats fair enough as one of them said to me "every boxer cant be a world beater".
