spike has a punchers chance... but he froze against BJS and didnt let his hands go enough.. i have a feeling this could all end in tears for spike:verysad:good
I dont think he 'froze' against BJS. I think the problem was/is that he lacks overall speed. His hands cant be 'let go' until his feete - and body - put him in position to throw landable punches. (I'm not sure this problem is fixable but thats another story) CEJ presents an entirely different (though no less serious) threat than BJS. However the reason I am more hopeful for his chances against CEJ is that CEJ isnt a foot-speed merchant. His habit of standing flat-footed in close and hooking gives Spike a chance here IMO. Give Spike a target that he can hit and he is a very hurtful puncher. Very hurtful. My worry is that Spike is a small middleweight and CEJ is a very big one. Size matters and its not in Spike favour here. Either way we'll find out a lot more about 'Unproven' Spike after this fight. :thumbsup
frampton announced on bbc ni that he wont be fiting again until next year and will most likely be against quigg:good:good
Mustve done a deal with Wake then...lets hope it doesnt get messy and legal and Wake takes a few bob 'stepaside money' and lets the Quigg fight happen......:good
Spike-BJS is a bad fight to draw conclusions on I'd say. At the time Spike was fighting very irregularly under ****** and spent most of his camp bursting his *******s to make weight. Any hopes of him pulling off an upset then were quashed when he burst his ear drum early on and had little balance. Completely different boxer now. He's boxing full-time, boxing regularly with Murphy's, and this has allowed him to stay on weight and focus on his actual boxing training ahead of fights. Not to mention the power he has developed even further since then. The Spike of the last 12 months is the real Spike, 4 wins, 4 KOs

Correct Joe. This is the point that Fra & McGuinty seem to be missing. Also there is the 'styles make fights' angle. A slick speedster like BJS is all wrong for Spike. However any lack of speed on Spikes part is going to be much less of a factor against CEJ - who likes to stand in close and hook - which suits Spike. This fight -i (f it goes ahead) - might come down to who is tougher - and they dont come much tougher than Spike.
Marty any chance you could edit your post to just include the link and leave out the main body, just so the website gets the hits, cheers
Good to see Tyrone McCullagh has signed a 3 year deal with Steve Goodwin. His amateur career suffered more than anyone with the restructuring of the amateur weight divisions. Lets hope he can now get out regularly!
Tough championships, Two/three medals between Ward and Conlon and O Reilly All are ranked high so that helps with the draw, Irvine could go on a bit of a run some lesser lads in his division but cant see him getting the final place he needs for a qualification box off, Mc Comb as always will be hard to beat in the opening rounds it'll take a good one to stop him, We can expect good performances out of walsh and nolan but cant see either getting a medal,
****** is coming out monday with the new date for Andy v BJS,i'd guess it will be London, unlikely to be this side of the pond.
