Tg4 have the rights to the elite finals and i for one am delighted, they have been at the last two and the intermediates, They show all the fights not just the poster boys and that in itself is comendable, Apparently rte and setanta put in bids aswell but once every four years is not good enough,Well done to the iaba and its not often we say that,
:deal Although when you look at the wall-to-wall coverage the Rugby gets - Rugby! - a total minority sport played by a few fee-paying schools in Munster and Dublin and globally in about 8 countries - it does get frustrating.
OK. The point I was making that on the one hand we have Rugby , a total minority sport, not just nationally but globally. (Hell the vast majority of the human race are excluded on the basis of size alone ffs!). On the other hand we have boxing - a truly global sport and one we excel at. Then you look at the amount of attention one get as against the other. atsch Just to back up my point - Mrs Len has by pure coincidence just right now complained to me that update after update is coming into her smartphone and they're all about - guess what - Rugby! :-(( :deal Boxing is potentially our 'Nokia' (Finland), our 'Cuckoo clock' (Swiss). Its potentially our global niche of expertise. If we had an ounce of sense we would be seriously investing in it. But as with so much else in this country we squander it. :dead
draw for the doha World Championships Light flyweight: Brendan Irvine v Nico Hernandez (USA) Bantamweight: Mick Conlan (c) BYE – fights Robinelson Viera (Brazil) or Jayden Hansen (Australia) in Round 2 Lightweight: Sean McComb v Lindozo Garza (Mexico) Light welterweight: Dean Walsh v Luis Diaz (Venezuela) Welterweight: Adam Nolan v Eimantas Stanionis (Lithuania) Middleweight: Michael O’Reilly v Valerii Kharlamov (Ukraine) Light heavyweight: Joe Ward BYE – fights Oleksandr Khyzhniak (Ukraine) or Abdelhafid Benchabla (Algeria) in Round 2 any opinion lads:good
Nolan got euro champ staright out of the gate, Mc comb will meet salinov if he beats the mexican(which he should) Irvine got a tricky but winnable one, Conlon got the best draw on paper anyway, O reilly is too smart for that ukraine Ward is too strong for his, Walsh could have a banana skin venesualan boxing has come on alot in the amateurs, but he should come through,
I fancy Ward and Conlon to get to the final anyway, Ward avoids De La Cruz till the final and he has beaten the Kazachk no 1 seed before handy enmoguh who he should meet in the semis.
agreed , o'reilly got a hard enough draw him, khamukov, alimkunaly and the Uzbek are all on the one side of the draw, the 4 best in the world imo
