I wonder what weight Mick will fight at when he goes pro, 56 kg is sort of stuck between super-bantam and feather. Id like to see him fight at feather because he's still a young guy and will probably fill out more as his career progresses.
Hmm, Frampton does seem the more explosive and powerful, but Conlon is still developing. Would be huge though if they could both keep progressing
Weighing-in just once though the day before in the pros rather than continuously over a week like in the Ams. Allows for bigger dehydration and weight cutting Frampton was in the old feather class (57kg / 125.6lb) when he was a young amateur and now he can do (55.33kg / 122lb) in the pros. No reason why Conlan (56kg / 123.5lbs) couldn't shave off a pound and a half when he turns over initially to make super bantam
Wasn't Luke Campbell fighting at 56kilos/123.5 pounds in the amatures and then turned pro at 135 pounds.
Maybe lads - maybe. But at the best of times boxing is a fickle business. Plus Carl would be in his 30's by the time Conlon would be ready for him.
With Carls short stature and reach I cant see him being very effective north of 122. Todays featherweights are huge. Carl has pretty much maxed-out his size for his frame already. Apart from all the other difficulties associated with moving up a division, he would be at a big physical disadvantage, size-wise, against most of todays top feathers. If at all possible he should stay at 122 IMO. Better to be a big super-bantam than a small feather. Also history is not on his side - looking back very few guys have moved up successfully fron 122 to 126. It seems like a small amount (4lbs) - but it has been an insurmountable obstacle to most who have tried it. For example even the atg super-bantam Wilfred Gomez of PR - one of the best small men I have ever seen - failed to make it at at 126.
Yeah but I think that was more him piling on the muscle to be an effective pro - whereas Conlan already has a pro physique
Andy Lee seems in bad form these days. Very tetchy at the press conference and now hes cribbing about Spike v CEJ stealing his limelight! He says hes 'seen CEJ in the gym and does rate him' - he doesent say he has actually sparred with CEJ which is odd. If they're both with Booth why havent they sparred???
Seems possible, depends on a load of stuff...big question, will countries with qualified boxers be allowed to send boxers to the next two qualifications? Important for two reasons, eg can Nolan try to force a play-off if Donnelly gets in? and (2) Can Russia and Co block up the system with even more qualified?
Hopefully but another question is would he have a place now if he hadnt been screwed with the visa issue? That was an high performance mess up that was swept under the carpet wasnt it,
May well have been but Billy was saying during the week their secretary was fantastic she sorted all the travel and visas for the irish fighters,i assumed a visa application would have to come from within that persons country,Could well be wrong there never needed one myself
Answered that one above already, WSB would be fantastic but whats needed is a very very big sponsor for your team and for arenas to be filled for each nights boxing, Two thing unfortunately we dont have or look like we are getting anytime soon,
