Olympic qualifiers approaching. Hoping for at least another three of the men to qualify. O'Reilly should qualify, Irivine and DOJ both have great chances, Walsh and O'Neill can do it with a decent draw and I'd give Gardiner an outside chance.
This part is a tough qualifier I expect O Reilly and DOJ to qualify as well as Taylor, anything else is a bonus, Irvine will def qualify but not untill the next one IMO,same with our 51k female (smith or walsh) Cant see the bigger lads/ladies qualify due to the lack of places, and depth of talent in europe, Moylett has put himself in a better spot ti qualify the walsh i think,
All depends on the draw really as there will be some decent lads left in every divisionalthough most Russians will be qualified already I assume, and a bit of luck with desicions, always one or two bad ones that ruin it for lads in the past such as O'Reilly last time out and Ward 4 years ago.
i dont think anyone is gaurenteed to qualify ,europe still has tons of quality boxers not qualified in Irvines division you have Picardi,Ali,Touba,Asenov as well as the turk he beat at the world but its on home soil for them now and we all know how bad the judging is in turkey I think DOJ our biggest shoe in to qualify Eranosyan and Cordina are good but he has beaten both before i think. there is alos valentino and the urkainian beliak. i thin he will qualify though and he deserves it. the turk could be an issue with home town decisions walsh will have it tough though Petrauskas, McCormack, sotomoyor and mangicapre. i dont think he will qualify O'reilly wont have it easy either Fowler(whos beaten him) Mbilli Asomo*who beat him recently), khamalov, are still there which could prove tricky. id fancy him to qualify though. no turk in his division which helps but the azeri could be tricky O'Neill has Manukian, Abdullayev, Korving, to face up against, with a good draw he could qualify Gardiner has it tough, Joyce, Madzhidov, Omarov, and the turk. but with a good draw you never know the world championship qualifirs will be cleaned up by europeans as the other continents have basically no good fighters left and europe will still have a lot of quality fighters left after this event i see irvine,Joyce, Walsh/Moylette and O'Reilly all qualifying for the olympics at least
also its a joke there hosting it in turkey again after the disgraceful decisions we saw last time. that coutnry literally has the worst judging in the world and iv seen a lot of turkish boxing fans even admit it. the apb world title fight between Sipal and Zamkovoi was held there last year and it was the worst judging iv ever seem Zamkovoi completely destroyed him and outboxed him easily. after every round they showed the highlights and it was all sipal missing and zamkovoi landing big flush shots, not one highlight in 8 rounds could they get of sipal landing a clean punch, he was completely destroyed, i never saw the scorecard during the fight but obviously assumed it was a one sided beat down with zamkovoi winning every round clearly. the fight was spotted on a clash of heads and when they read the cards i couldnt believe it, Sipal literally won on a clean swipe on every judges card! theres a few turkish posters on here who iv talked to about it and they even admitted it was the most disgraceful discision they had ever seen and were ashamed of it. so expect tons of robberies at this tournament lads they also tried to rob chebatarov in the middleweight final he was down on the scorecards in the ten round dispite beating his man, but he got the knock out thankfully
Turkey have entered a boxer at 75kg meaning that they must have returned their Olympic spot at the weight (I have vague memories of Kilicci failing a drugs test, although that could have been Sipal). Irvine will be seeded so that may give him a favourable draw. All will be revealed on Saturday morning I suppose
All depends on the draw, in the previous qualifiers so far in Americas, Africa, Asia/Oceania, some of the best fighters in the whole division have fought early on in prelims or quarter finals. AIBA's seeding is bull**** Kilicci for Turkey was originally qualified for Rio at 75kg but now he's back in the qualifying tournament, not sure what happened. Does someone else from APB in 75kg get that spot now or is there just one APB cycle spot for that division?
kilicci had the drug ban overturned. and he is still in line to go to the olympics so its a weird one but i did see that on the entry sheet thats good, are doj and o'reilly seeded too?
if someone was to get the apb spot it would be mytrofanov the ukrainian id say which would make the draw easier. tbh the africa qualifers was abysmal and there arent many good fighters left in the other continents. ireland even if they dont do too well here should be licking there lips at the world qualifiers also prepare for robberies in turkey lads
O'Reilly yes, DOJ no. APB and WSB doesnt effect seeding for this tournament but will impact on seeding at the Olympics
good thing o'reilly is seeded might help him avoid fowler and the french kid early on im not too worried about doj not being seeded, he has three attempts left ot qualify and he should be favorite at each of them
